Facilities
Every camper will spend five days on Duke University’s campus across various athletic facilities. Whether you are getting up shots in the K Center practice facility, working on your swing at the Duke University driving range, visiting the cold plunge tubs and saunas in Krzyzewskiville, or eating lunch in the Hall of Honor, you will have an all-access pass to our premier facilities.
CAMERON INDOOR STADIUM
Duke University’s Cameron Indoor Stadium, the crown jewel of college basketball’s classic venues, was conceived on the back of a matchbook cover in 1935 and opened in 1940 after nine months of construction and a $450,00 budget. Legend has it that it all began with a book of matches, which for a town and a school founded on local tobacco fortunes, seems a promising way to start.
The intimacy of the arena, the unique seating arrangement that puts the wildest fans right down on the floor with the players, the legends that were made inside these stone walls, and the feeling of history being made with every bounce of the ball: the magic inside Cameron Indoor Stadium is palpable. And it’s something even more, something indescribable that comes from the building itself. No one who has experienced playing on the court, coaching on the sidelines, or cheering in the stands will ever forget it.
Cameron Indoor Stadium serves as the main hub for all things K Academy. Not only will basketball campers and assistant coaches get the chance to play many games on historic Coach K Court but will move throughout the facility in our Basketball Hype Room, Hall of Honor, Cragg Family Room, Bill Brill Media Room, and more!
DUKE UNIVERSITY GOLF COURSE
The Duke University golf course was first envisioned in the early 1930’s when Coach Wallace Wade, Coach Eddie Cameron, and Duke President William Preston Few inspected portions of the Duke Forest and discussed the desirability of a University course. The original golf course construction was planned to begin prior to World War II, but when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, the plans were put on hold by Wallace Wade, Duke’s Athletic Director. At the conclusion of the war, the plans resurfaced and the present site of 120 acres was selected. The property was carefully chosen for its unique blend of unusual elevation changes throughout its mildly rolling terrain. Today, Duke University Golf Club exists for you to play, enjoy, and savor the vision of Robert Jones and Rees Jones.
During the K Academy, the Duke University Golf Course serves as the home base for our golf campers. Connected to the Washington Duke Inn, this set-up allows our campers to practically walk out of their hotel rooms and straight onto the course!
KRZYZEWSKI CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE
The three-story, 56,000-square-foot Michael W. Krzyzewski Center for Athletic Excellence nearly tripled the existing space to expand tutoring, computer resources, one-on-one counseling, and team study space for Duke’s 600-plus student-athletes. It also includes two full-court practice areas for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, a weight and conditioning room, a team film room, and a large event space.
Most commonly referred to as the K Center, campers will be moving throughout this facility whether it’s for evaluation games, team practices/film sessions, or an evening dinner event.
SCHWARTZ-BUTTERS ATHLETIC CENTER
To the regular Duke fan, this serves as the home to the Duke Basketball Museum where sports fans from across the globe have made this a “must see” stop on Duke University’s campus. Duke Men’s Basketball’s unparalleled success is archived with a multitude of trophy displays, including the five title trophies, videos, and memorabilia, which are all on display under one roof. Inside the museum are also great photo opportunities that put you in the middle of two iconic areas of Duke Basketball – the tent city known as Krzyzewskiville and the Cameron Crazies, complete with National Championship banners.
Unbeknownst to many, this facility is also home to our basketball locker room, athletic training room, and team lounge that K Academy participants will have complete access to.
KRZYZEWSKIVILLE
Krzyzewskiville, or K-Ville, is widely known as the home of our Cameron Crazies, partially during tenting season. If you don’t know what we are talking about, please take a minute to look it up and be amazed!
While we do not have students out camping during the K Academy, we transform K-Ville into an extension of our athletic training spaces and feature cold plunges and a sauna village from All Day Running Co.
