#SPACE: 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱'𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 🚀 Japanese researchers from Kyoto University and Sumitomo Forestry have launched the world's first wooden satellite, LignoSat, into space.🌌 This palm-sized satellite was sent to the International Space Station on a SpaceX mission and aims to test the use of timber for lunar and Mars exploration. Named after the Latin word for "wood," LignoSat showcases the potential of renewable materials as humans contemplate sustainable living in space.🌍✨ LignoSat is crafted from honoki wood using traditional Japanese techniques without screws or glue.🪵🔧 Once deployed, it will orbit for six months, testing wood's durability in space's harsh conditions, where temperatures shift drastically. Not only does this innovation minimize environmental impact upon re-entry, but it also highlights wood's potential to reduce space radiation's effect on semiconductors, opening doors for future industrial applications.🌟 👉 Learn more >> https://lnkd.in/gkm-CbWT The Wooden Satellite project has already been reported back in 2022 on Swiss TV >> https://lnkd.in/d25-2cij -- Thank you 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿, SRF - Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen for the nice reportage! #RESEARCH: 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝘆𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆'𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝗥𝗔 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱! 🇨🇭🇯🇵🧬🔬💡 We're thrilled to share highlights from our recent visit to the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University with Présence Suisse members Alexandre Edelmann, Michaela Malenchini, Béatrice Bleuler as well as Niniane Paeffgen, GESDA - Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator. This visit provided valuable insights into cutting-edge regenerative medicine research and fostered discussions on industry-academia collaboration. Key Takeaways: • Explored CiRA's world-leading iPS cell research and its applications for treating intractable diseases such as Parkinson's disease and ALS. • Discussed potential collaborations for EXPO 2025, showcasing Switzerland's innovation in life sciences, since CiRA plans to demonstrate an artificial heart made by iPS cells, at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion. • Joint research on clinical-grade iPS cell-derived neural progenitor cells. • Transfer of "universal" iPS cells from CiRA to IREM for potential clinical applications. CiRA is the largest research institution about iPS cells in Japan, and it has a fruitful collaboration with the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM) at the University of Zurich, which has been ongoing since 2017. Recently, our Consul & CEO Dr. Felix Moesner had the privilege to open the CiRA-IREM Joint Symposium “Driving Next-generation Cell and Gene Therapy” together with President Dr. Nagahiro Minato, Kyoto University. This symposium is a commemorative event of the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland🇨🇭🇯🇵. After this, we had the great opportunity to have a lunch meeting with David Kornhauser, Director of Global Communication at Kyoto University and visited the brand-new Tadao Ando building. This visit reinforced the importance of international cooperation in advancing scientific research and innovation. We're excited about the potential for further Swiss-Japanese collaborations in regenerative medicine, EXPO 2025 and beyond! #SwissJapaneseInnovation #RegenerativeMedicine #EXPO2025 #ScienceDiplomacy #iPS Christian Schwarzenegger Melanie Generali iPSZürich Wyss Zurich Katja Tiffany Kelvin Hui Iris Wieczorek Roman Kern Tatiana Benavides Damm Régis Nyffeler Follow the Consulate of Switzerland, Swissnex in Japan🇨🇭🇯🇵 #AddingValue | #Education | #Research | #Innovation | #Startups🚀 | #VitalitySwiss
