Refueling the future of space! ⛽🛰️ Astroscale Japan has been selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to develop in-space refueling technologies with a total budget of up to ¥12 billion. The project will leverage our proven Rendezvous and Proximity Operations technologies to demonstrate chemical propellant refueling in low Earth orbit with an eye toward scalability to geostationary orbit and refueling solutions for electric propulsion systems. This latest news underscores our commitment to advancing a circular economy in space through on-orbit servicing, guided by the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refuel and Remove. Astroscale France welcomed the Commandement de l'Espace (including LCL Pascal P & LCL Nicolas Bourrouet) to our office in Toulouse for training on our capabilities in on-orbit servicing. We were excited to showcase the ADRAS-J achievements — a key inspection mission that is paving the way for the long-term sustainability of space. Here are three key takeaways: 1️⃣ Historic ISOS Signing: A highlight marked by the joint declaration for the deployment of the ISOS pilot mission, supported by the European Commission and Member States, including France. 2️⃣ Discussion Around the Need for Space Assets for Defence: An outstanding session, notably with Général Philippe Adam, who underlined the strategic importance of space assets in national military strategies. 3️⃣ The Launch of the EU Digital Space Ecosystem: We will actively participate in this promising new platform, designed to boost innovation within our #EUSpace community. These milestones represent important progress in accelerating the development of strategic in-orbit service capabilities for Europe's infrastructure. Always an honor to have our Founder & CEO, Nobu Okada, representing Astroscale and advocating for space sustainability at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)'s Scientific and Technical Sub-Committee in Vienna. 🌍 Day 1: Nobu joined the Japan Day side event, hosted by the Japan - The Government of Japan, alongside speakers from JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, Spacedata Inc and Keio University. Together, they explored the latest advancements in technology, policy and business driving space sustainability forward. 🚀 Day 2: Nobu addressed representatives from 104 Member States, emphasizing the urgent need for actice debris removal and accelerating global action toward a sustainable future in space. The docking plate blasted off aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-12 mission, integrated into an Astro Digital Corvus-XL bus. 🚀 Our Gen 2 docking plate is a small, lightweight interface designed for easy integration and maximum flexibility to enable docking for servicing and disposal requirements. 🛰️ “The Astroscale docking plate was seamless to integrate and reinforces the industry’s collective vision of sustainable space usage,” Kunal Desai, Astro Digital Program Manager.
