"A dementia patient who had never spoken before smiled and started talking when they saw a delicious-looking dessert!" By working with the government, Seven & i Group has been able to use some of our Denny's stores to provide meeting places for dementia patients. That quote was from a municipal representative who saw an immediate impact from the very first meeting. It's important to respect the dignity and interests of people with dementia. Holding meetings at the familiar and relaxing Denny's setting, while providing a tasty meal, is one way that Seven & i Group is helping patients maximize their quality of life. Denny's is supporting dementia patients to live their best life. Seven & i Food Systems is working with the Japanese government to provide dementia patients a friendly, casual space to meet and share meals. 15% of people aged over 65 are expected to be diagnosed with dementia by 2050 in Japan. It is important that they have safe spaces to participate in society and feel included. Rather than hold meetings to exchange information and socialize in government-run buildings, 19 Denny's stores across 13 municipalities are working with the government to hold the meetings there instead. It's empowering for the patient, and another way that the Seven & i Group works to support all members of society. In March of this year, Koichiro Otaka was appointed as the new President & Representative Director of York-Benimaru, a supermarket chain under Seven & i Holdings. Otaka joined York-Benimaru in 2019 and has 30 years of experience in a trading company. After joining the company, Otaka spent three years working at a store. He values the advice from Zenko Otaka, the Honorary Chairman, who only told him to understand the needs of employees working on the frontline. Otaka advocates for "collective management" that brings together specialized expertise. He has established four new lines of business in sales, management, finance, and DX. This new corporate structure allows teams to collaborate to address the most complex and specialized management issues. --- This material is from the quarterly shareholders' newsletter "Shikiho". We are working with industry, government, and academia in Japan to support disaster prevention and response with SEVEN VIEW. A recent event brought together: Izuru Nishimura, Executive Officer and General Manager of the Systems Department at Seven-Eleven Japan, who was involved in developing this system; Isao Kamiishi from the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention; and Keisuke Okuma, an official of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Here is what they said about the potential for SEVEN VIEW to support disaster prevention and response, and these are just some of the social benefits that SEVEN VIEW will deliver. --- This material is from the quarterly shareholders' newsletter "Shikiho". SEVEN VIEW has been instrumental in supporting disaster readiness across 7-Eleven stores in Japan. Here's its story! We sat down to talk to Izuru Nishimura, Executive Officer and General Manager of the Systems Department at Seven-Eleven Japan. SEVEN VIEW was developed back in 2014 when Japan faced a series of natural disasters, including heavy snowstorms, tsunami threat, torrential rains, and volcanic eruptions. "We needed a disaster management system that allowed everyone to share real-time status information,” Nishimura said. 7-Eleven needed a solution so that headquarters, located far away from the disaster-stricken area, could provide the necessary support. SEVEN VIEW was designed to focus on being easy to operate for anyone. With it, the system can even track delivery truck locations and predict which stores will likely be affected by a torrential downpour. Additionally, SEVEN VIEW has a unique feature that displays the area on a map where evacuation orders have been issued. --- This material is from the quarterly shareholders' newsletter "Shikiho". Interested in learning how Japanese 7-Eleven stores keep customers and staff safe during a disaster? The answer is SEVEN VIEW. This disaster management system was developed by Seven-Eleven Japan and launched in 2015. "VIEW" stands for Visual Information Emergency Web, and it allows 24/7 store monitoring and the ability to update logistics statuses. SEVEN VIEW is now an important tool for maximizing the effectiveness of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) in the event of a disaster. What's more, it has been developed into community disaster prevention infrastructure through industry-government-academia collaboration projects. --- This material is from the quarterly shareholders' newsletter "Shikiho".
