The last Leadership Jersey event of 2024 with Robin Smith, Chief of Police, was brilliant. The feedback from those who attended has been overwhelmingly positive.   Robin’s insights on leadership during crises were both engaging and real, packed with invaluable takeaways for anyone leading a team through tough times. Here are just a few of the highlights:   ✨ Setting the right tone – Leading your team from chaos to calm is essential. ✨ Strategic thinking – Stop and think. Great decisions aren’t made in a rush. ✨ Recognising your best leaders – Identify who is leading in a crisis to avoid unnecessary chaos. ✨ Simplifying complexity – Great leaders simplify when everything feels overwhelming. ✨ War-gaming preparation – Immersing yourself under pressure helps you handle crises with confidence. ✨ Managing media – Have a designated spokesperson to control the narrative. ✨ Managing expectations – People often have high expectations; doing the right thing takes time. ✨ The ABC rule – Assume nothing, Believe nobody, Check everything. ✨ Confident decision-making – Be bold, make decisions, and record them, even when faced with tough choices. ✨ Reputational risks – Always keep them in mind with leadership decisions. Robin’s talk wasn’t just insightful; it was also incredibly engaging and humorous.
