This week the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) held the 46th Global Privacy Assembly conference. This 5 day conference (today is day 4) has attracted experts from around the world. We know data, protection, privacy and controlling data are hot topics, and with the speed and complexities of exchanging information, exploring it in depth is critical. Our chair Kate Wright was invited to deliver a keynote on reducing inequalities in privacy rights. With her Freeda, VAWG and JCRT hats on, Kate was able to draw attention to research conducted in the area. She highlighted how some demographics such as women, children and young people, as well as ethnic minorities are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse due to a lack of protection of their privacy rights. It was an important reminder that equal access to data privacy is a fundamental human right. For employers, communities, policy makers, this has to be a focus and, together, the goal should be in creating cultural change for a more inclusive and fairer society. Congratulations Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner on delivering a world class conference with so many lessons. Photos from Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner

On average, 18% of the workforce are women experiencing menopause. As a considerate employer, it makes absolute sense to support menopause in the workplace. At the JCRT, we believe a supportive workplace community, starting with leadership, can only have a positive impact on retention, costs and productivity. A few members of the team have shared their thoughts on menopause...please add your thoughts and encouragement in the comments below. Ps. As a Jersey employer, you can pledge your commitment by signing up to the 51 Employers Menopause Friendly Workplace. Find out who else has signed up: https://lnkd.in/dgwMR253

We are really pleased to see progress and better protection for islanders when submitting a discrimination case under the proposed changes to the employment tribunal system. With these reforms, we hope it enables a more accessible and effective route to justice for Islanders who bring their cases forward. The JCRT will continue pushing forward for more improvements, in particular seeing improved access to support and justice for migrants with less than 5 years’ residency. We believe it’s vital to create a working environment that supports fair treatment and a positive working experience for all workers. We are grateful to Deputy Lyndsay Feltham for listening to our concerns and working towards delivering a fairer working environment; and to the Jersey Employment Forum for making the recommendations that have led to these important steps forward. Our thanks also go to our Trustee Dan Reid for leading this for the JCRT. Daniel Read Lyndsay Feltham

A Jersey report found that the gender pay gap for 2023 was 14.7%, a large disparity compared to the UK's 7.7%. But what happened next has been nothing short of magical... ✨ A group was formed to discuss the pathway to change. Through shared learning, confidential support and a collective desire to see a better future the group grew and grew. Now, with positive examples of businesses taking the lead in this area, free advice of how to tackle the issue and innovative technology to support the journey - change seems imminent. So we at Orchard play our role as communicators to give weight to this topic and to wholeheartedly show our support. Thank you to everyone who took part in making this video and to Slingshot Films for partnering with us on its production. We believe in communications as a force for good, to empower change, and to inspire others. If you want to help eliminate the gender pay gap in Jersey and campaign for fairer, more inclusive working environments please share this video widely and join the group https://lnkd.in/ePmru8tq #bebrave #genderpaygap #mindthegap
