I'm excited to announce that I've achieved the Results-Based Accountability (OBA) Professional Certification from Clear Impact! This certification enhances my expertise in OBA and I hope will be hugely helpful in contributing to our island community wellbeing and safety. I look forward to applying this knowledge while collaborating with partners on the Building a Safer Community Framework with the Government of Jersey. Fantastic afternoon yesterday celebrating Purple Tuesday at the most amazing venue hosted by Jane Hollinshead of the Canary Wharf Group! Great to hear from so many incredible people in the room who are all a force to improve the experience and opportunity for disabled people. The panel discussion with Boots UK SHL Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 💜 Smartbox Allwyn UK Standard Chartered Bank National Highways was very insightful and inspiring to hear about what they are all committed to doing! Some key points below: 🦽🦯🌻 27% Uk population & 17% global population is disabled 🤝 Trust is starting to be built between brands and disabled people but more needs to follow and businesses need help to understand and change through real tangible lived experience ⏩Momentum is growing and the next generation will not tolerate what previous generations have. So we all need to work at pace. Three points to help…. 1️⃣ Be a Disability Ally 2️⃣ Address ableism when you see it. Not confronting it but do something about it 3️⃣ Advocate for disability rights Collectively we need to understand true accessibility and then make it happen I am so greatful to Mike Adams for the invite today and I am looking forward to developing the relationship to see how we can support Jersey businesses and organisations to make meaningful change. 🌊🌪️ After the relentless force of Storm Ciaran, the Parish of St. Brelade came together like never before! 🤝 Little did I know that when I volunteered to help the Constable Mike Jackson to support the Parish of St Brelade in the wake of this powerful storm, that I would be coordinating over 120 Parishioners in the space of 48hrs! Now that's the power of community! The Parish showed its strength and resilience by coming out together in a massive cleanup effort. 🌱🧹 Technology became my best friend through a simple Microsoft form knocked together in 30 mins, to over 90 people joining a Parish Whatsapp community split into 11 neighbourhood groups, all mobilised and coordinated through my phone! From volunteers to Costa Coffee donating drinks, everyone pitched in to start to restore our beautiful parish. It was truly heartwarming to witness the compassion and unity that flowed through the veins of St. Brelade. 👏 Together, we picked up debris in the pouring rain whilst the volunteer drivers did multiple trips to the green waste. 🙌 Our collective effort transformed the devastation into a powerful symbol of community spirit. Excitagged. Not one for the dictionary. But it is that time. How I feel. Just a little over two weeks to the Purple Tuesday celebratory day. Already living off adrenaline. And trying to keep a grip on swirling emotions. Attempting to keep excitement central. The day creates global interest and a huge opportunity to raise awareness and understanding. And sets the platform for 364 days of increasing involvement and engagement. A real sense of being pulled in so many directions. Run ragged. A million and one things that I would like to do. This juggernaut has rapidly evolved since starting out six years ago. When 748 organisations got a personal phone call. Smart phone rarely used for actually talking to people. We have a Team superbly run by Charlene Overend. In each country we have coordination. Alexandra Geiser in Germany. Emily Woodward (she / her) from Leathwaite: Executive Search and Faride Shroff from SENsational Foundation in Hong Kong. Dr Jennifer Erin Camulli and Emma Johnson at Standard Chartered Bank for the UAE and Nishah Govind Kumar (she/her/hers) in Malaysia, where the celebrations have already started. There is Shaista Ayesha in Pakistan. And Jennifer Quigley and Kathryn Johnson in the U.S. Here in the UK Jane Hollinshead Michelle Laramy and Natalie Marcus at Canary Wharf Group are in London with Ed Thomas from Motability Operations Ltd in Edinburgh. These country celebrations are unique to work for local disabled people and organisations. It has strengthened the bond. The relevance. The impact. All under the same global banner. Our Disabled Ambassadors are maxing their social networks. The voice of #PurpleTuesday is no longer just me. But Isaac Harvey MBE. Kris Foster. Nick Wilson. Dr Shani Dhanda FRSA. Lee Keogh fCMgr. And so many others. And the people listening and taking action involve those from day dot and some who are two weeks in. Like Joanne Dewar who is also posting and causing more than a ripple. For those relatively new I have written a Lord of the Rings epic of Purple Tuesday. Key nuggets can be found.
