From today Parental Bereavement Leave comes into force and every business should ensure their policies and procedures are up to date. Please speak to our employment expert Claire Kingham if you need guidance.
From today, the entitlement to Parental Bereavement Leave from work is enshrined in Jersey law. The key points are: · Parents who lose a child under the age of 18 (including a child stillborn after 24 weeks) have a statutory right to two weeks unpaid leave. · The entitlement extends to the child’s mother and father, including adoptive or surrogate parents and the partner of a parent if they were to be involved in the upbringing of the child. · It is a day one right (no further qualifying period required) · Leave may be taken in 3 separate periods, within 56 weeks of the event occurring. · Those taking bereavement leave will be entitled to a benefit of up to the current mean average wage (currently £920 per week). Congratulations Elwyn - what a great experience.
Last weekend two of our third-year LLB students Elwyn Jones and Aurore Talazac participated in an ELSA United Kingdom Mooting Competition at the Inner Temple in London. This is the first time that ELSA Jersey have had the opportunity to take part. Elwyn and Aurore won second place, with Elwyn receiving an award as the best oralist! Congratulations to Aurore and Elwyn! A great personal achievement for them, and a wonderful way to put Jersey ELSA on the map!👏 🇯🇪
