It was a pleasure to welcome the British Irish council working group for creative industries and social inclusion to the Opera House, during their visit to Jersey last week. We gave them a tour of the building, and in line with their focus on climate change, spoke about some of the work we have been doing around decarbonisation. Interesting morning attending the Government of Jersey Sustainable Construction Summit. Lots of healthy debate and interesting updates on the future of the industry. No easy answers that’s for sure, but we are keen to play our part in creating a more sustainable future for the industry and our island. Thanks to all of the speakers, the panel and the workshop facilitators for an informative event.

Continuing our commitment to the local community and the environment, we’ve been busy over the summer holidays bringing a Forest School to life at La Moye. Last term the school worked with us, Chris Clifford @private_and_public_gallery and @siobhannmacleod to hold a competition for pupils to help design the new space. Phase one of the project, fully funded and project managed by Ashbe, is almost complete. The school now has a wonderful new base camp, including a fantastic mud kitchen. This structure collects rainwater on the specially designed roof, to be stored in the integral water butts, and fed through to the fully functioning sink taps, providing running water for the children to use at all times. They also have new undercover areas, den building frames and multiple outdoor learning opportunities. Our next focus will be on a science area within the forest school, developing the pond area and outdoor classroom. We will provide more updates as the project continues, but we hope that the school enjoys using this completed part of the space for the start of term!
