This partnership marks a significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration, which began in 2019. 📡 Through Telespazio's newly inaugurated SATCOM hub at the Maricá teleport near Rio de Janeiro, we will support the FAB's Integrated Air Defense and Air Traffic Control Center (CINDACTA) units. 📡🌍 On 11-12 September the European Defence Agency (EDA) held the 26th EU SatCom Market Joint Procurement Arrangement (JPA) Meeting Group at Telespazio’s Fucino Space Centre in Italy. The event was an excellent opportunity for representatives from EU Ministries of Defence, CSDP actors, and EU bodies to discuss the evolving role of satellite communications in strengthening European defence capabilities. It allowed participants to exchange views on the latest innovations in satellite communications (SatCom) technologies, emphasizing their strategic importance in future #EUDefence and space operations. In parallel, EDA hosted the 8th EU SatCom Market Event, where trusted industry partners showcased commercial cutting-edge #SatCom solutions to all EU SatCom market contributing members. From GEO, MEO, and LEO satellites to mobile communication solutions, the event testified the rapid technological progress driving Europe’s #space and #security sectors. At the core of these discussions was the need for reinforced collaboration to equip #EUDefence forces with resilient and reliable SatCom solutions. EDA is at the forefront in fostering this cooperation. As of 2:40 UTC / 4:40 CEST, EUSPA is managing two new Galileo satellites as part of the Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP). The satellites were launched earlier this morning by the European Space Agency - ESA under a contract with SpaceX, and have now reached their breathing point. Over the following days, EUSPA’s GSOp LEOP team will be manoeuvring the satellites from the dedicated Galileo Control Center in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany until they are precisely placed into their home orbit at 23 220 km. Galileo LEOP operations constitute one of the most cooperative activities between numerous European entities in the space sector, including EUSPA, Spaceopal, DLR GfR mbH, GSOC, Telespazio and ESA. Today, #Telespazio had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from IILA-Organizzazione Internazionale Italo-latino americana - during their visit to the #Fucino Space Centre. The event was opened by Stefano Pontecorvo, President of Leonardo, and Gabriele Pieralli, CEO of Telespazio, who highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration with Latin America. The visit provided an opportunity to explore how Leonardo and Telespazio's advanced technologies can support environmental, social, and economic sustainability, in line with the goals of Multilateral Development Banks such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. In her speech, Antonella Cavallari, Secretary General of IILA, emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Italy and Latin America to tackle global challenges. Key projects already underway in the region were discussed, including cadastral surveys in Colombia, Argentina, and Costa Rica. These initiatives address critical issues such as deforestation, water efficiency, and agricultural productivity, showcasing Telespazio’s expertise in Earth Observation and data analytics. The visit also included a tour of the Fucino facilities, featuring the #Galileo Control Centre and satellite mission control rooms, where the guests could see first-hand how space technology supports innovation and sustainable development.
