Alessandro Russo, Head of HPC and Cloud Infrastructure for #Leonardo, has turned his passion for computers into an extraordinary career, contributing to the creation of three High Performance Computers (#HPC), including Leonardo's #davinci1, for which he is now is now responsible for infrastructure and cloud. Alessandro joined Leonardo in November 2020 and is now also responsible for more than fifty company data centres in Italy. Since technological innovation is transversal, he is inevitably involved in the main high-tech projects: from the #GCAP to the Aerospace City of Turin, via #ArtificialIntelligence. “My path has been inverted and atypical, I realise that,” he says, “but I have no regrets, because I have always put myself on the line by leveraging an enormous curiosity and a lot of tenacity.”   The davinci-1, created together with Carlo Cavazzoni, Head of Digital Infrastructures, is capable of carrying out 5 billion floating point operations per second, with a memory capacity of 20 million gigabytes and a read-write speed of 100 gigabytes per second. “I’m so proud of it. And I repeat it also to the students during the meetings in the schools, when I am called to tell my story: curiosity and the desire to grow are the main engine. To do the job means to gain experience, which is essential in any field and for any objective that one intends to pursue.”   To young people who are completing a #STEM path, Alessandro can only recommend that they always be animated by curiosity and passion, and keep in mind that “Leonardo is possibly the only company in Italy to have such a vast range of products as to be able to offer infinite possibilities in the study and application of the most advanced technologies.” The right place for those who “never stay still.”   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dBmz83fq   #WeAreLeonardo

Contribute to the sustainability objectives of IT platforms and the #EU directives on #GreenComputing thanks to the ability to make the execution of applications in a data centre more energy efficient. This is the objective of #SEED, a European Union research programme, led by #Leonardo, and which makes use of partnerships with leading companies in their respective sectors and start-ups such as #E4, GemaTEG , Modelway S.r.l. of #Cooltech and the University of Bologna (Università di Bologna). The SEED project, which will last 18 months, aims to develop and implement technological solutions for High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures that allow the reduction of processing costs through an increase in energy efficiency and the reduction of cooling costs of #HPC systems, both of single applications and of the workload of a data centre as a whole. These transformations will be crucial for #davinci1, Leonardo's supercomputer which, like many HPC infrastructures of its class, is destined to evolve over time with a view to green computing.

We are delighted to have won the TS-Contractors session at the Capital Works and Technical Services Contractors Safety Campaign Award Presentation Ceremony 2024, held at Hong Kong International Airport, organized by Airport Authority Hong Kong to honour its suppliers.   #LeonardoAutomation delivered an all-encompassing system: from design and production to delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of four #CrossBelt Primary Sorters along with all related hardware and software. To ensure uninterrupted airport operations, #Leonardo executed the project in phases during 2021-2022, ensuring minimal impact on existing infrastructure. This approach enabled a seamless transition and integration with the existing legacy system.   During the ceremony, Claudio De Muro, Customer Support & Services Executive Manager of Leonardo Automation, received the award on behalf of the company.   A big thank you to everyone involved in this successful collaboration!

At Leonardo's Cascina Costa (Varese, Italy) site, the first ground run, with rotor testing, of the Next Generation Civil Tiltrotor (#NGCTR) Technology Demonstrator (TD) took place. The next phase of the programme involves intensive testing in the coming months, with the aim of performing the first flight by the end of 2024 and then accumulating 200 flight hours to expand operational capabilities in helicopter and aircraft modes.   NGCTR’s Technology Demonstrator was built by #Leonardo with the aim to design, develop and demonstrate in flight innovative #tiltrotor technologies, paving the way for future product developments. Using the #AW609 fuselage, the NGCTR-TD incorporates technologies adaptable to possible future programmes and to industry development. These include an advanced wing architecture; an optimized V-Tail configuration that reduces trim drag; a non-tilting engine set-up, with a split gearbox, thus allowing a wider selection of engines and the avoidance of ground hot gas impingement and ground noise reduction; an advanced Fly-by-Wire Control that employs a modular, distributed, and scalable Flight Control System. Furthermore, an efficient nacelle architecture which minimises drag and improve control and reduces flapping in VTOL mode by a differential control of nacelle tilting.   This initiative, part of the #CleanSky2 project, is one of the key projects of the Leonardo’s #Sustainability Plan. It is an important example of advanced mobility technologies combining improved performances and lower emissions, with a positive impact on citizen’s security.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dMkEEzNR
