Elena Rubini and colleagues explored the knowledge on the forensic medical examination of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in peer reviewed studies. The results of this systematic scoping review show that scientific literature focusing on this topic is scarce and limited attention is given to CRSV-specific sequelae compared to those provoked by physical and psychological violence. High quality research focusing on the forensic medical examination of torture, including CRSV, could serve to document operational methodologies and as a guideline to professionals conducting these evaluations. https://lnkd.in/dxf_dnyq doi: 10.1016/j.jflm.2024.102736 Photo: Freepik Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale

E-simulation is revolutionizing humanitarian health training, making it more accessible, cost-effective, and practical for crisis responders. A recent study by Awsan Bahattab and colleagues used a mixed-methods action research approach to develop and evaluate scenario-based e-simulation (SBES) modules, which significantly improved both students' knowledge and satisfaction. The iterative, cyclical nature of action research and stakeholder involvement enabled modules' customization and identified key design elements that can help other educators create effective disaster and global health training programs. Despite challenges like poor internet access, this innovative method has great potential to shape the future of humanitarian health education. https://lnkd.in/dzF3CBD6 doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2023-079681 Photo: CRIMEDIM Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale

Humanitarian health education is evolving rapidly to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in crisis situations. A new review highlights gaps in training programs, especially the need for standardized frameworks and more localized, accessible education. "Interdisciplinary collaboration and e-learning, including e-simulation, are key to improving future training", Awsan Bahattab and colleagues say. https://lnkd.in/eXZEg-ck doi: 10.3389/fpubh.2024.1343867 Photo: Nick Youngson/CRIMEDIM Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale

A new study reviews Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Mass Casualty Incident response, offering a synthesis of the existing KPIs used in the evaluation of the pre-Hospital response to disasters and MCIs. "There's a need to use common terminologies and uniformed tools, if obtaining standardized evaluation method is the goal to be achieved", Nikolaos MARKOU-PAPPAS and colleagues note. https://rebrand.ly/kpis-mp

We are thrilled to announce the successful delivery of our training course on Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Management at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, in collaboration with Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS). The course was specifically tailored for medical and non-medical United Nations staff to equip them with the crucial knowledge and basic principles of MCI Management. We employed a variety of advanced training methodologies, such as e-learning, discussion-based exercises, and simulation tools ranging from table-top exercises to manikins and task-trainers, and from virtual reality to high-stress live scenarios. Our scenario-based approach included different MCIs related to realistic terror attacks that could happen at the UN HQs during daily work and the General Assembly. Congratulations to all participants for their dedication and hard work! We thank the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) of the United Nations for their support. #MCI #DisasterMedicine #UNTraining #EmergencyPreparedness #SimulationTraining
