Summit Program Highlight: Closing Ceremony at Jarðhitasýningin // Geothermal Exhibition! ⚡ After our special field trip, we will celebrate the Mineralization Summit wrap-up at the premises of our sister company Orka náttúrunnar / ON Power in Hellisheiði. Experience first-hand how green, sustainable energy is produced at one of the largest single-site geothermal power plant on the planet, launched in 2006. A hydrogen sulphide abatement unit is located at the plant, which uses the Carbfix process to filter out 75% of the hydrogen sulphide and 30% of the carbon dioxide which is dissolved in the geothermal fluids and conducted into the re-injection system. 👉 Register now to the Mineralization Summit: https://eur.cvent.me/YzNq0

Summit Program Highlight: Opening Reception at Gamla Bío! 🥂 Carbfix is proud to invite our onsite participants to one of the most iconic venues in Reykjavík, the old cinema Gamla Bío, on Day 1 of the Mineralization Summit 2024. 💎 In 1925, cinema director Peter Petersen, known as Bíópetersen, asked master builder Einar Erlendsson to draw up plans for a new cinema. Bíópetersen had been running a cinema in Fjalarkettin on Aðalstræti since 1907, but that building had become too small for the business. The growing competition in the cinema sector, particularly after Nýja bíó moved to a new location in 1920, prompted Bíópetersen to start advertising his business as Gamla bíó. On September 13, 1926, construction began on the new cinema at Ingólfsstræti 2a. The first show in the new Gamla bíó building, Ben Hur, premiered on August 2, 1927. 📽 Register now to the Mineralization Summit: https://eur.cvent.me/YzNq0

The Carbfix team embarked on a special fieldtrip where Magnus Thor Arnarson - Project Manager for Silverstone - guided us through its main operation site, presenting the project´s key developments. Project Silverstone is an innovative European Union funded project which will deploy full-scale CO2 capture, injection, and mineral storage at the Hellisheiði Orka náttúrunnar / ON Power plant, reaching world's first near-zero carbon footprint geothermal power plant. Project Silverstone is expected to reduce emissions by 150,000 tonnes of CO2 over the project lifetime. This project alone will deliver 10% of Iceland's Climate Action Plan calls for by 2030 within the energy and industrial sectors not covered by the EU ETS. Exciting news from Denmark that has recently granted three research permits for onshore carbon capture and storage (CCS). 🌏 This marks a significant step towards achieving global climate goals. According to the IPCC, the scale of CCS activities needs to increase nearly 70-fold globally by 2050 to maintain global warming below 1.5°C, alongside substantial advancements in renewable energy. Countries worldwide are prioritizing the development of CO2 reception and storage facilities. Spain and Germany, for example, are currently considering such initiatives. A recent statement from the European Commission underscores that these projects are essential for reaching carbon neutrality and highlights the "urgent need" for new injection sites to be operational by 2030. The Commission encourages member states to support capture, transportation, and CO2 projects. Iceland is in a prime position to respond to this call and contribute to Europe’s collective climate goals. The development of the Coda Terminal in Straumsvík is our significant contribution to this critical effort. Carbfix’s innovative methods transform CO2 into stone permanently and safely within a short period. #CarbonCapture #CCS #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Carbfix #IPCC
