Subhas Chandra Bose, born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa, was a nationalist leader who joined the nationalist movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress in 1921.
After returning from England, he became Congress president in 1938, leading to his multiple attempts to restore India’s independence.
To honour Bose for his efforts in restoring Indian freedom, in 2021, the government announced that 23rd January will be celebrated as ‘Parakram Diwas.’

This year, in 2025, a grand celebration will take place from January 23-25 at Barabati Fort in Cuttack, honouring Netaji’s legacy in his birthplace, and will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.
