Here come both the England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett and shami has the new ball in his hand. Steams in and Salt smashes the first ball through the covers for a 4!!! Follows that up with a straight shot for 4 more. Exactly how England would have wanted to start the run chase. Oh my word!!! Salt is taking hami to ask as he hits a huge six before taking 2 runs. India has lost wickets in clusters in those final overs. Ravi Bishnoi falls off on the final ball trying to hit a full toss on leg-side into the stands. 247/9 it is. It is a very massive score but England does have their share of power hitters in this batting lineup. And evidence from the first innings suggests that there is no spin on this wicket either and India has plenty of them. England will believe these can be chased but it is not going to be easy. Abhishek Sharma falls eventually. It was wide delivery from Rashid which Abhishek Sharma went after and the ball was caught at mid-wicket on the off-side. It is arguably one of the greatest T20I innings by an Indian batter. He got a standing ovation and all the England players came and congratulated the batter. 

Abhishek Sharma continues to hurt England here. Though he is losing partners from the other end he is just slamming anything in his arc. It just has been Sharma's day. It has been a flawless inning from him. India needs one good cameo from here to push England out of the game. Not that England cannot get these runs but they will need someone to match Abhishek Sharma's knock.

India has gone past 200 here in the 15th over they can go and get to about 270-280 here provided they don't keep losing like they have been in the last 15 minutes or so. While sitting in the dressing room it might seem like batters can go after the bowling it might be wise to just give yourself a chance and explode in the final overs. Having said that Pandya's dismissal was unlike as he hit it straight to the square-leg fielder. In fact, he middles it. As we update Rinku Singh departs.

Amidst all the chaos Carse has been one bowler who has been spot on for England. Before this series, he did not have a great T20I record to boast of which is quite surprising. But in this series time and again he has shown he has got the game for it. He is not the usual bowl-up and bowls at the death bowlers. He has ingredients to bowl in all phases. As we update Mark Wood picks up Hardik Pandya.

England might consider closing one side up. Usually on wickets like this some of the better death-bowling teams set the field for one side and keep pitching it there. However, England seems to be still trying a few things but this wicket has absolutely nothing for anyone apart from a bit of bounce. As we update Brydon Carse picks up Shivam Dube. 

India is looking in its comfort zone on this wicket. These are the kind of wickets India need more and more if they need their batting to come through. As all of the players are free-stroking ones in this lineup giving wickets like Chennai and Rajkot will only hamper that ability. However, what those wickets do is they help the array of spinners India have in their ranks.

Abhishek Sharma has got to his 100. Rohit Sharma was the fastest for India in 35 balls and Abhishek Sharma got there in 37 balls. This is what he can do can Abhishek. On his day he can run through the bowling attacks. Meanwhile, all this was happening Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed. He tried to play one on leg side and the ball went high up in the air and while the ball was swirling Salt took a brilliant catch.

Tilak Varma has been dismissed here and it is Carse again who gets the breakthrough. It was well directed short ball and the batter tried to upper cut and the ball went straight into the hands of the keeper. Tilak just seemed to have cramped for room and the ball seemed to be hurried onto him. Carse just has this uncanny ability of bustling and tend to make the ball skid on.

India doesn't seem to have a contingency plan here. They just seem like have come up with only one tactic for all the whole series which is to dig the ball into the surface and hope some mistakes would come but today the dimensions of the grounds ensure that even the slightest bit of pace on the ball and a hefty edge will take the ball into the stands. They need to tight down here stop singles put pressure.

This is brutal from India. While there were a few green patches and it gave the impression of being one of those early seasons IPL Wankhede wickets where the ball tends to move in the Powerplay but this has behaved contrarily. Abhishek Sharma especially seems to be enjoying the conditions. We are eight overs into the innings and it already feels like damage control.

Abhishek Sharma has reached his half-century here in no time. The faster they have come the faster they have reached the boundary. This is already the highest score for India in the Powerplays. It just seems like this lot of players do enjoy the ball coming onto the bat with some pace instead of slow wickets. Tilak Varma at the other end too has started going here. He is playing his shots. 

The boundaries are flying are here and this is what happens in Wankhede. The moment there is a batter to counter the tactic the runs will start flowing and that is what is happening. Abhishek Sharma with his exceptional hand-eye coordination is enjoying the ball coming nicely onto the bat. He is thrashing the ball all over the park. England needs to come up with a counter here.

Sanju Samson is gone. It is the short ball yet again which does the trick. It was a delivery over 150 by Mark Wood to get rid of Samson. It seems like England has found a method to trouble Samson. However, to Samson's relief not every attack in the world has bowlers bowling over 150. However, having said that these series will play in his mind and teams will target it more and more going forward.

That was an eventful opening over. Jofra Archer came and bumped a few and Sanju Samson went after everything short. The over yielded 16 runs but Samson could have easily mistimed one of those deliveries. Nevertheless excellent start for India in the game. They have got the momentum.

The stage is set now. Both openers have walked into the middle and the crowd is buzzing. This can be easily highest scoring game of the series or if there is some swing on offer with the new ball it can easily go the other way.

A venue where boundary count is very high. 64m and 63n square boundaries respectively, 71m down the ground. It's a red soil pitch. There are a few cracks but not much grass near the full length early. There's some grass cover around the good length area, so there might be some movement for the pace bowlers. The pacers need to target the stumps. There hasn't been much dew around, but electing to bowl first is a good option

We played some good cricket in patches. We should have executed it better though. Need to grab the special moments in the game. There's a good vibe in the team, it's a good venue and it's a great crowd. It's a good wicket, Mark Wood comes back in. Both teams are high-octane (in terms of batting.)

We wanted to bat first, looks a good wicket. I am hoping there won't be much dew. It's going to be a full-packed stadium tonight. We want the boys taking that responsibility, that's what we demand and that's what they are doing. You will fail sometimes, especially when you play that high risk, high reward game. Shami comes back in for Arshdeep Singh.

“I used to scold him a lot,” Bayash recalls. In training, Tilak was exposed to fiery 130-140 KPH deliveries from a very young age. “These days many have started using sidearms (the equipment used for throwing balls at batsmen) but we started making him face deliveries against Sidearms in 2014 itself.”

Tilak's raw cricket talent, evident in his century against a private academy despite having no training, convinces his mentor Bayash and his parents to allow him to pursue cricket more seriously.

“I used to work till 12 at night and wake up at 3:30-4 in the morning. Sometimes it would become 1am and on a few occasions, there is no sleep at all. Because once you have decided to do it there is no other way,” said Nagaraju. “Sometimes you think about those memories; I wonder how we even did it.”

“Like I said, it was not the whole reason why we did not win the match. We had our chances to win the game which we could have still taken. But I’d like to have a bit more clarity on that.”

“There was no consultation [with us]. That’s something I was thinking as I came out to bat – who is Harshit on for? They said he is a concussion replacement, which I obviously disagreed with. It is not a like-for-like replacement. They said that the match referee had made the decision. We had no say in it or any part of it. But we’ll ask Javagal [Srinath] some questions just to get some clarity around it.

“Either Shivam Dube has put on about 25mph with the ball or Harshit’s really improved his batting. It’s part of the game and we really should have gone on to win the match, but we disagree with the decision,”

Rule 1.2.7.3 of the ICC playing conditions for concussion substitution states: “The ICC Match Referee should ordinarily approve a Concussion Replacement Request if the replacement is a like-for-like player whose inclusion will not excessively advantage his team for the remainder of the match.”

Rana made instant impact when he came on the field in the 8th over and took the catch of England skipper Jos Buttler who after getting dismissed wasn’t happy and had a chat with the coaching staff in the England dug-out.

“Replacing a big-hitting batting all-rounder, who has bowled one over in the IPL [in 2024], with a guy who can’t bat and bowls heavy seam makes no sense to me whatsoever.

“It seems absolute madness that you are allowed to do it, but credit to the lad on debut, but he shouldn’t be allowed to play there. It gave the captain another brilliant option.”

Michael Vaughan also to social media and said: “How can an out & out bowler replace a batter who bowls part time!”

Harshit Rana's T20I debut as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube in India's T20I win against England has caused controversy.  England captain Jos Buttler questioned the "like-for-like" replacement, as Dube had scored a crucial half-century.  Despite the controversy, Rana took three wickets, significantly impacting the match and contributing to India's victory. Dube was hit by a short ball and was deemed unfit to continue.

Mumbai's weather on February 2nd evening is predicted to be cool and clear, with no rain expected.  Temperatures will be above 25 degrees Celsius, and humidity will increase during the match, potentially making bowling more difficult.

The Wankhede Stadium is a high-scoring venue in T20 cricket, with an average first-innings score of 191.  While pacers get some initial help with swing and seam, the pitch quickly becomes very batting-friendly, aided by short boundaries and a fast outfield.  Teams winning the toss often choose to chase, given the history of successful run chases there.

I back my instinct, back myself. And see how it goes,” he would say.

“ I have worked with him in all the formats at domestic cricket. The first time I saw him was in the Duleep Trophy where he got a very good 100 in one of the games. I think he has the temperament for the longer version; he batted patiently and has the technique to counter both spin and the pace. He came back in the SMAT (For Hyderabad) after scoring those two hundreds in South Africa, so he did pretty well in the T20 also, so his game in the T20 is sorted.”

“So, with Sanju Samson, I think you should just make sure that he gets as many innings as possible purely because when he gets into form and plays well, he makes it all worth it. If that was another guy who was failing in this fashion and when he got into form just got you 40 or 50, then maybe you would offer him a shorter rope. But I will have a lot of patience with this current version of Sanju Samson,”

“When you are looking at a T20I talent, batting talent, you have got to see when they are playing well what kind of impact they can make, what contribution they can make. And you see with Sanju Samson, when he plays well, he gets an incredible hundred and puts your team in a winning position. So, such people are allowed failures and maybe a long patch of failures as well because that’s the nature of these as a T20 cricketer, where you can’t play yourself, where you have to keep taking those risks that they take. Hopefully, there’s that one innings that just propels him back into form,”
