Air-transmitted pollutants spread in a faraway place from emission points of the pollutant source via wind (speed and direction as causing factors). Fluoride is one the pollutant generated in aluminium industries which is harmful to human and plants in excess concentration. This study focuses on the use of spatial interpolation methods for assessment of fluoride concentration around aluminium industries. The samples were collected from different test sites in the study area to investigate the fluoride concentration level. The test sites include several locations such as industrial unit, river site, residential and distant villages. Then, the collected samples were used to predict the overall fluoride concentration in the entire study area. The aim of the study was to evaluate the spatial variation and presence of fluoride concentration in the surroundings of the aluminium industries. Geostatistical interpolation modelling was applied to assess the prediction of fluoride contamination for other non-sampling points using the direction and distance method of empirical Bayesian kriging (EBK) modelling. Thus, geospatial modelling was used to predict the contamination of fluoride around the study area to create environmental awareness. In particular, this study assesses the fluoride pollutant concentration which might become dangerous with slowly increasing concentration against its standard concentration, which will severely impact the human health. In overall, EBK can provide valuable information regarding the fluoride concentration on possible level of fluoride in concern to public health.
Metastasis to an epitrochlear lymph node from a primary invasive breast cancer has not been repor... more Metastasis to an epitrochlear lymph node from a primary invasive breast cancer has not been reported earlier. We report a case of epitrochlear lymph node metastasis that presented 10 years after the primary breast malignancy had been treated with radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormonal therapy. The patient was successfully treated and continues to remain asymptomatic more than 2 years after she presented with the metastasis.

Different types of membranes are used in the industry for various purposes like extending the shelf life of milk without exposure to heat treatment, standardization of the major components of milk for tailoring new products as well increasing yield and quality of the dairy products, and concentrating, fractionation and purification of milk components especially valuable milk proteins in their natural state. In the cheese industry, membranes increase the yield and quality of cheese and control the whey volume, by concentrating the cheese milk. With the advancement of newer technology in membrane processes, it is possible to recover growth factor from whey. With the introduction of superior quality membranes as well as newer technology, the major limitation of membranes, fouling or blockage has been overcome to a greater extent.
Utilizing the difference in surface tension between SiO2 and metal catalysts (Mn2+, Ni2+), we sho... more Utilizing the difference in surface tension between SiO2 and metal catalysts (Mn2+, Ni2+), we show how metals form nanoshells, nanodiscs and nanospheres at the tips of the SiO2 nanostructures of nanocones, nanorods and nanowires. For the Mn2+ catalyst (i), SiO2-nanocones are formed with the hemispherical convex cap of the MnO/SiO2 composite. For the Ni2+ catalyst (ii), SiO2 nanowires are grown due to the concave shape of SiO2 surrounding the multi-faceted NiSi particles at their tip. For the Mn2+/Ni2+ catalyst (iii), SiO2 nanorods are formed with large-sized spherical ferromagnetic single Ni nanocrystals (50-200 nm in diameter) surrounded by the concave MnO2/SiO2 composite at the tip of the SiO2 nanorods. This large-sized spherical formation of the single Ni crystal is possible because Ni is able to be chemically reduced by Mn at 950 degrees C, well below the melting point of Ni (1455 degrees C) due to the alloying effect.
The effects of different concentrations of cadmium chloride on the extent of lipid peroxidation (... more The effects of different concentrations of cadmium chloride on the extent of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and alterations in the antioxidant enzyme activities were studied in liver, kidney and gill tissues of freshwater murrel, Channa punctatus. The fish specimens were exposed to 6.7, 13.4 and 20.1 mg l(-1) sublethal concentrations of cadmium chloride and the oxidative stress was assessed after 24, 48, 72 and 96 h post-exposure. The biomarkers selected for the study were thiobarbituric acid reactive substances for assessing the extent of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defense system such as reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GP(X)), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities. In general, the cadmium exposure elevated the LPO in subject tissues of treated group and modulated the activities of GPx, GST, SOD, CAT, GR and level of GSH after given exposure as compared to the control. All enzymes activities, except CAT (in kidney and gills), and amount of LPO elevated significantly (P < 0.05) in treated group with respect to control in all tissues, while significant difference was not observed between the exposed concentrations and within exposure duration. The results indicated that increase in LPO level and the fluctuation in antioxidant defense system in fish could be due to cadmium-induced increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The potential role of these parameters as biomarkers of heavy metal pollution in aquatic system is discussed.
