The study was conducted to study the changes in biochemical parameters and its relationship with faecal egg counts in goats predominantly infected with Haemonchus contortus. A total number of 100 goats of either sex were divided into five groups (Group I, II, III, IV and V) on the basis of egg per gram (EPG). Results revealed a highly significant (P<0.01) inverse correlation of EPG with glucose, total serum protein, albumin and albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio. Whereas, highly significant (P<0.01) positive correlation of EPG with globulin and cholesterol were observed. Mean values of glucose, total protein, albumin and A/G were decreased in groups with high worms load whereas; globulin and cholesterol levels were increased. It causes a significant proportion of economic losses to the dairy farmers in India. Cattle and buffalo farming contribute significantly to the economy of the state. Various infectious agents such as bacteria, fungi, and algae may cause mastitis. Hence, it is essential to understand the etiological agents and predisposing factors that lead to mastitis in susceptible bovine populations in Madhya Pradesh state so that appropriate prevention and control strategies can be implemented. In this chapter, epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention, and control measures of mastitis in general and in India, the state of Madhya Pradesh, in particular, will be presented.

Mastitis is an inflammatory reaction of the parenchyma of the mammary gland that can be of an infectious, traumatic or toxic nature. Methods: Total 300 buffalo milk samples were collected. E. coli were isolated from the mastitis samples and characterized for virulence factors haemolysis, biofilm formation, invasiveness and molecular characterization of fimH and Pap Gene. Result: Out of total 300 buffalo milk samples 52.33% were found positive for sub clinical mastitis. E. coli was recovered only from 17.19% samples. Hemolytic activity was exhibited in 23 (85.18%) out of 27 examined E. coli strains. Invasive property also has been determined in 12 (44.44%) isolates. Background: Paratuberculosis or Johne’s disease in domestic livestock population is caused by the... more Background: Paratuberculosis or Johne’s disease in domestic livestock population is caused by the bacteria, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis. The disease in cattle is characterized by chronic granulomatous enteritis leading to diarrhoea (intermittent or continuous) followed by weakness and emaciation in the affected animals. This research aimed to test cattle population, serologically, for detecting level of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis infection. Methods: In the present study, a total of 180 serum samples from individual cattle of Indore district in Madhya Pradesh tested in a serological test, indigenous enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for detection of antibodies against Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis. Result: A total of 49 cattle (27.2%) were found positive in the test for the bio-presence of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis infection.

These included oral swabs, nasal swabs, blood samples, impression smears and tissues from different parts of respiratory tract showing pulmonary lesions. Out of these, only 36 samples (21.17%) collected from clinically ill animals or morbid tissues were showing respiratory tract infection suggestive of respiratory tract infection of bacterial origin which were further processed for microbiological examinations. Pasteurella multocida and E.coli were isolated from 7(19.44%) and 11 samples (30.55%) out of 36 samples respectively in pure culture. The remaining samples did not reveal any bacterial growth.

A total of 105 hybridomas secreting anti-Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus monoclonal antibodies (... more A total of 105 hybridomas secreting anti-Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were generated from six fusions against four strains of JE virus: wild-type strains SA14 and G8924 and live attenuated vaccines SA14-5-3 and SA14-14-2 (PDK-9). Most of the mAbs (87%) elicited haemagglutination inhibition activity while only a minority (24%) elicited neutralization. None of the mAbs prepared against SA14-5-3, parent of SA14-14-2, elicited neutralization while the only mAbs prepared against SA14-14-2 that elicited neutralization recognized flavivirus cross-reactive epitopes. In comparison, mAbs raised against wild-type strains showed that a spectrum of epitopes with different specificities, including JE type-specific epitopes, elicited neutralizing activity. Two mAbs, prepared against SA14-5-3 virus, were found to be vaccine-specific and five, prepared against strains SA14 and G8924, were wild-type-specific.
