Do investors pay attention to foreign market conditions when they evaluate multinational corporat... more Do investors pay attention to foreign market conditions when they evaluate multinational corporations? Using geographic segment disclosures by multinational companies headquartered in the United States, I find that stock prices do not promptly incorporate information regarding changes in foreign market conditions. This generates return predictability in the cross-section of firms with foreign operations. A simple trading strategy that exploits geographic information yields a risk-adjusted return of 135 basis points per month, or 16.2% per year. The predictability cannot be explained by a firm’s own momentum, industry momentum, post-earnings-announcement drift, being a conglomerate, or exposure to emerging market risk. Consistent with the investor inattention hypothesis, I further document that smaller firms, as well as firms with less analyst coverage, fewer institutional holdings, or more complex foreign sales compositions exhibit stronger return predictability. This paper is the f...

Phrasing suitable land planning strategies requires assessing future flood risk and predicting the impact of urban sprawl. This study aims to develop an innovative approach combining land use change and hydraulic models to explore future urban flood risk, aiming to reduce it under different vulnerability and exposure scenarios. SPOT-3 and Sentinel-2 images were processed and classified to create land cover maps for 1995 and 2019, and these were used to predict the 2040 land cover using the Land Change Modeler Module of Terrset. Flood risk was computed by combining hazard, exposure, and vulnerability using hydrodynamic modeling and the Analytic Hierarchy Process method. We have compared flood risk in 1995, 2019, and 2040. Although flood risk increases with urbanization, population density, and the number of hospitals in the flood plain, especially in the co...

The first rotary MR brake is integrated in the waist joint to reflect the horizontal tangent force, the other rotary MR brake is integrated in the shoulder joint to reflect the elevation tangent force, while the linear MR brake is integrated in the sliding joint of the arm to reflect the radial force (approach force). The proposed configuration can reflect a desired force to the operator at the end-effectors of the arm independently in 3 DOFs by controlling the current applied to the coils of the MR brakes. After the introduction, the configuration of the proposed force feedback system is presented. Afterward, the design and conducted simulation of the MR brakes for the systems are provided. The prototype of the force feedback system, which was manufactured ...

The fixture modules consist of a hybrid material structure involving metal frame elements and mineral casting. These modules can be combined and connected to realize fixtures adapted to the geometry of the workpiece and requirements of the machining processes. By integrated pipes and interfaces, an internal hydraulic supply and active cooling is possible even for combined modules. Temperature and acceleration sensors allow for an active thermal control and process monitoring. The modules and first test fixtures are investigated in experiments.

MNCs from HIV+ patients were deficient in NK and ADCC activity compared to control MNCs against several target cells. Overnight incubation with IL-15 or IL-12 augmented NK activity of MNCs from

Hence, even without restrictions on international capital mobility, a positive cross-country correlation of labor can be obtained by simply incorporating into standard models preferences that rule out the wealth effect.

Exchange rate depreciation not only worsens the net-worth but also increases the financing amount of importer firms who borrow in foreign currency, hence exaggerating the borrowing finance
