UML is one of the leading notations for system design and is likely to be the basis for a wide range of design tools. However, UML has a comparatively weak

Our solution is based on the distribution of the matchmaking task among providers, leaving the final allocation decision to a central scheduler that can be running on a limited device without a big loss in performance. We evaluate our solution by simulating different scenarios and configurations against the Opportunistic Load Balance (OLB) scheduling heuristic, which we found to be the best option for home grids from the existing solutions that we analyzed. The results have shown that our solution performs similar to or better than OLB.

A community places constraints on its members, restricting the behaviour they can participate in. This may involve a stronger form of constraint than those which result from the traditional binding of objects at interfaces, which requires only that the communication between the objects has some observable properties. This paper discusses the different forms of constraints, and examines the range of forms that community construction may take. In particular, it examines the process of abstracting from a community to yield a community object, and then using this object to fill some role in a broader community. It shows that the role filling process needs to consider mappings and constraints between objects that fill other roles in the communities concerned.

Application of formal techniques can make the speci cations more precise, re- ducing the ambiguity inherent in natural language, and can automate some or all of the process of implementation and testing. This paper examines the use of formal description techniques to the speci cation of managed objects. In particular we examine the relative merits of two ...
