The input of organic matter in the soil by the no-tillage system (NTS) increases as the system be... more The input of organic matter in the soil by the no-tillage system (NTS) increases as the system becomes established, raising the levels of organic phosphorus (P) and reducing the P soil adsorption. This study evaluated the availability of organic and inorganic P in areas under different management systems and stages of adoption in the Cerrado. The data were analyzed as a completely randomized design, corresponding to: (1) an NTS after 5 years of its implantation (NTS5); (2) an NTS after 17 years of its implantation (NTS17); (3) a conventional tillage system more than 20 years old (CTS); (4) Native Cerrado (NC). There were five repetitions for all treatments. As such, cooling the growing environment is key to cultivating tomatoes in controlled environments during summer, but effective cooling systems are expensive and involve high production costs. The use of biostimulants has been reported to increase yield and can mitigate the effects of high temperature on greenhouse-grown tomatoes. Our hypothesis is that biostimulants can improve tomato yield, particularly in the event of stress during cultivation. Our aim was to assess the effects of three biostimulants on greenhouse-grown tomato plants in the summer under a tropical climate. The swamp palm (Mauritia flexuosa L.f.) is a palm tree that occurs in the Brazilian Amazon, Panta... more The swamp palm (Mauritia flexuosa L.f.) is a palm tree that occurs in the Brazilian Amazon, Pantanal and Cerrado biomes and occupies wetlands such as the Cerrado swamps. Because of this association and its high size, swamp palm has been used as an indicator of preserved areas. As it is still explored extractively, little has been investigated about its propagation. Seedlings of 90 days developed from seeds in cylindrical tubes (290 cm3) with substrate (composted pine bark) were prepared. An essay was carried out in a completely randomized design with five treatments, 10 repetitions and one seedling per plot (pot). The maximum water retention capacity (MWRC) of a red dystrophic oxisol, with 20% clay, was estimated in a 12-liter pot. However, the use of such method requires the understanding of the plant growth characteristics under filed conditions. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate and compare the vegetative growth and first yield of Coffea arabica cv. Acaia plants obtained by cuttings and with seed propagated plants. The experiment was installed in the year 2003 and carried out in the Department of Agriculture at Federal University of Lavras-UFLA. However, the most widely used method to produce coffee seedlings is time consuming (6-12 months) and lacks new production technologies. This study aimed to assess the use of fertigation and a growth regulator in the production of coffee seedlings, in order to develop a system faster than the conventional method. For that, Topázio coffee cultivar seeds were pre-germinated and planted in tubes filled with substrate (composted pine bark), in a protected nursery. A randomized block design was used, in a 4 x 2 (fertigation levels x the use or not of growth regulator) factorial scheme, with four replications. Daily fertigation positively influenced all the growth variables evaluated. The foliar spraying of the growth regulator had little effect on seedling growth. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram caracterizar agronomicamente cem clones de mandioca (Manihot es... more Os objetivos deste trabalho foram caracterizar agronomicamente cem clones de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) e calcular os coeficientes de trilha entre a produção de raízes tuberosas e cinco componentes da produção, de modo a auxiliar na seleção de clones superiores. O experimento foi conduzido em área experimental da Universidade Federal de Lavras, em 2005 e 2006. Cem clones de mandioca foram avaliados em delineamento látice quadrado 10x10. A unidade experimental foi constituída por quatro plantas espaçadas de 1,0x0,6 m. As análises estatísticas foram realizadas considerando-se as oito características individualmente, utilizando-se o teste de Scott-Knott para agrupamento das médias.
