The adult who accompanies needs information about the disease and the treatment of the child. The infant hospital library attempts to meet the needs of both of its users. However, such a library has not been thoroughly considered for scientific inquiry. Hence, this paper investigates its structure and actions by addressing three subjects as follows. First, a software was developed specifically for this type of library, which registered the catalog, users and loans data of two years of service of a voluntary infant hospital library in a Brazilian state public hospital. Then, an exploratory study of the reading preferences of the users while hospitalized was carried out, whose findings follow. Adults play an important role in encouraging and assisting recreational reading, which occurred in all age g...

Such educational methods, however, are typically based on some simulation, be it in the scope of the scenario, the problem, or the stakeholders. A change in the traditional teaching paradigm becomes necessary, bringing the student to the center of the RE activities. This helps them realize the importance of properly identifying and organizing the demands from the target audience, so that a quality requirements specification document can be produced. This paper describes a method applied during the Requirements Engineering course using a real scenario, in which students sought to identify the diverse stakeholders' needs with respect to the university institute website. Through this work, students achieved effective engagement in practical RE activities, whose results has benefits not only to the university community, but ...

Once proven and deployed, the system is expected to be a viable alternative to delivery of production fluids via umbilicals in deep water and with long step-outs from host production facilities. For decades, deepwater engineers have discussed a future in which oil and gas production systems that are typically located on floating facilities, would be placed on the seabed. The resulting subsea factory would include pumping, fluid storage, separation, power management, connections and controls all operating in the marine environment. While these technologies have proven to be reliable in the topside environment, and some have been used for short-term intervention, to date only boosting and separation systems, subsystems and components have been qualified for long-term installation on the seafloor. This paper details how the Technology Qualification Program, defined in the second edition of API RP 17Q, has been applied to qualify the novel subsea chemical injection system. The paper describes how the performance requirements were defined, together with their reliability implications, and provides examples of qualification activities.

Different proportions of organic and inorganic waste moistened (or not) in wastewater were vermicomposted (by Eisenia foetida) for 120 days in the first stage of the experiment. Statistically significant earthworm density increase was observed between the 60(th) and 90(th) experimental vermicompositing days in all the assessed groups. There was decreased E. foetida population density after 90 days. The K, P, TOC, C/N ratio and Ca, Na and Mg concentrations significantly decreased at the end of the vermicompositing process in comparison to the initial concentrations identified in most treatments. On the other hand, there was pH and N, Fe, Zn and Mn concentration increase in most of the ver...

Objetive: This experiment aims to evaluate the influence of electroacupuncture on recovery of peripheral nerve through functional gait analysis and nociception after crush injury in the sciatic nerve in rats. Methods: Were included 30 Wistar rats, weight of 198g divided into three groups. Functional analysis was performed by the method of Functional Index Sciatic (FIS) by shooting the rear footprints performed on a mat with controlled rate in the days: preoperative; 7th day post-operation; 14 post-operation day and 21th day post-operation. In the same period the animals were evaluated for nociception using von Frey filaments. Results: From the results it was found that there was an improvement of the FIS in both ...

In this paper, we perform experiments on a number of graphs from standard complex networks databases addressing the problem of finding a "good" vertex cover (finding an optimum is a NP-Hard problem). In particular, we take advantage of the ubiquitous power law distribution present on many complex networks. In our experiments, we show that running a greedy algorithm in a power law graph we can obtain a very small vertex cover typically about 1.02 times the theoretical optimum. This is an interesting practical result since theoretically we know that: (1) In a general graph, on n vertices a greedy approach cannot guarantee a factor better than ln n; (2) The best approximation algorithm known at the moment is very involved and has a much larger factor of [Formula: see text]. In fact, in the context of approximation within a constant factor, it is conjectured that there is no (2...

In this case, lung recruitment maneuver (RM) with positive end-expiratory pressure under computed tomography guidance is the procedure of choice, but cumulative ionizing radiation exposure is a major radiologic concern, especially in infants. Real-time guidance of lung recruitment under bedside lung ultrasound (US) assessment in adults has shown to be an effective procedure for performing RM that avoids ionizing radiation overexposure. We report a case of US-guided lung recruitment procedure applied in an infant with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and advocate that the lung US-guided RM in infants is a feasible and safe procedure.

This study reports the exo-PG production by Bacillus subtilis CM5 isolated from cow ruminant microflora, which was comparable to marketed pectinase (Pectinex®, Novozyme, Denmark). The optimum temperature, pH, and incubation period for optimum exo-PG production (82.0–83.2 units)
