The construction and update of a radio map are usually referred as the main drawbacks of WiFi fin... more The construction and update of a radio map are usually referred as the main drawbacks of WiFi fingerprinting, a very popular method in indoor localization research. For radio map update, some studies suggest taking new measurements at some random locations, usually from the ones used in the radio map construction. In this paper, we argue that the locations should not be random, and propose how to determine them. Given the set locations where the measurements used for the initial radio map construction were taken, a subset of locations for the update measurements is chosen through optimization so that the remaining locations found in the initial measurements are best approximated through regression. The regression method is Support Vector Regression (SVR) and the optimization is achieved using a genetic algorithm approach. We tested our approach using a database of WiFi measurements collected at a relatively dense set of locations during ten months in a university library setting. The experiments results show that, if no dramatic event occurs (e.g., relevant WiFi networks are changed), our approach outperforms other strategies for determining the collection locations for periodic updates. We also present a clear guide on how to conduct the radio map updates.
This dataset contains two Wi-Fi databases (one for training and one for test/estimation purposes ... more This dataset contains two Wi-Fi databases (one for training and one for test/estimation purposes in indoor positioning applications), collected in a crowdsourced mode (i.e., via 21 different devices and different users), together with a benchmarking utility software (in Matlab and Python) to illustrate various algorithms of indoor positioning based solely on WiFi information (MAC addresses and RSS values). The data was collected in a 4-floor university building in Tampere, Finland, during Jan-Aug 2017 and it comprises 687 training fingerprints and 3951 test or estimation fingerprints. 13.10.2017: Version 2 uploaded; the revised version contains improved readme files and improved Python SW. In this paper, we prese nt a first step to evaluate and compare multiresolution models. We propose a t of tests to measure the speed performance of the models for interactive visualization and uniform resolution LOD. We have carried out some experiments with implementations o f the following two models: Progressive Meshes and Multiresolut i n Ordered Meshes.

Unfavourable conditions, such as rain or high humidity, can produce a risk of fungal diseases. Meteorological monitoring is vital to have some indication of a possible infection. The literature contains a wide variety of models for warning for this type of disease.These are capable of warning when an infection may be present. Devices (weather stations) able to measure weather conditions in real-time are needed to know precisely when an infection occurs in a smallholding. Besides, such models cannot be executed at the same time in which the observations are collected; in fact, these models are usually executed in batches at a rate of one per day. Therefore, these models need to be adapted to run at the same frequency as that at which observations are collected so that a possible disease can be dealt with as early as possible. Ponencias, comunicaciones y pósters presentados en el 17th AGILE Conference on Geographic Informa... more Ponencias, comunicaciones y pósters presentados en el 17th AGILE Conference on Geographic Information Science "Connecting a Digital Europe through Location and Place", celebrado en la Universitat Jaume I del 3 al 6 de junio de 2014.Due to pressure of food demand, increased price competition and demand for sustainable farming practices, it’s increasingly important to optimize agricultural practices. The European FP7 project ERMES focuses specifically on rice cultivation, and aims to combine earth observation, crop modelling and ICT techniques and tools to optimize agro-practices and ultimately, support environmentally and economically sustainable farming systems. ERMES combines partners from Europe’s three main rice-producing countries: Italy (51,3%), Spain (25,4%) and Greece (7%)1. With end-users and case studies in these three countries, the ERMES project is perfectly positioned to chart current practices and innovation potential in the European rice cultivation market. In this work, we focus on how ERMES plans to develop and exploit modern ICT tools and techniques to assist rice farmers to streamline the rice cultivation process on one hand, and local authorities to better regulate, control and oversee rice cultivation on the other hand.Proyecto FP7-Space ERMES n. 60698
Access to GIS data from mobile platforms continues to be a challenge and there is a wide range of... more Access to GIS data from mobile platforms continues to be a challenge and there is a wide range of fields where it is extremely useful. In this work, we combined three key aspects: climate data sensors, mobile platforms and spatial proximity operations. We published and made use of a web 2.0 network of climate data, where content is user‐collected, by means of their meteorological stations, and exposed as available information for the virtual community. Moreover, we enriched this data by giving the users the opportunity to directly inform the system with different climate measures. In general, management of this type of information from a mobile application could result in an important decision tool, as it enables us to provide climate‐related data according to a context and a geographical location.
