Instead, businesses should prioritise stability by focusing on improving existing strengths, strengthening relationships with teams and customers, and ensuring solid foundations before scaling, he further says.     "Grow fast, scale big." Many businesses work on this principle, but I think it comes with some considerations. I don’t think this is the best approach all the time. Yes, and no doubt growth is the "good" thing and the biggest motivator. But, sometimes, it can be a "bad" thing happening to your business. I think businesses should stop and look for stability over fast growth. And stability doesn't mean you should stop everything. But, you should focus on, → Improving what’s already working → Building stronger relationships with your team and customers → Making sure that your business is solid before expanding further To me, a business that is stable, with happy customers and a reliable team, is just as valuable as one that is growing rapidly.     The average salary hike in India is expected to be 9.5% in 2024-25 compared to an actual increase of 9.3% in 2024, The Economic Times reports. Industries such as engineering, manufacturing, and retail are expected to see a double digit salary hike at 10%, followed by finance, the study finds, which considered data across 1,176 companies from over 40 industries. This indicates that employers are now giving strategic importance to talent in these sectors considering the current economic scenario, the report says. "Despite evolving global economic challenges, our study indicates a positive business outlook across several sectors in India,” says Roopank Chaudhary, Partner and Head of Reward Solutions in India for Aon. When it comes to the technology sector, the year started on a cautious note, but sentiment remains optimistic, the report adds.     Controversial Take: You're Not Overworked—You're Overwhelmed! I’ve heard so many people say they’re overworked, but what they don’t realise is they’re actually overwhelmed. Let’s suppose you’re a mid-level manager. Here’s how it plays out: Overworked: You’re juggling multiple teams, people have quit your team and you haven’t had a chance to hire properly, as you are racing against project deadlines. Your to-do list is never-ending, and it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. Classic case of too many tasks on your plate. Overwhelmed: On the other hand, maybe you don’t have that many tasks, but you feel lost in your role. Why? You’ve never been properly trained to lead a team. Now, you’re mentally exhausted trying to balance team morale, performance, and leadership all at once. It’s stressful, even if the workload isn’t heavy. See the difference? It’s a common mix-up. Being overworked means there’s simply too much on your plate—you are working two jobs, or your output consistently exceeds what is achievable for someone of your calibre or in your position within a similar timeframe. Being overwhelmed, on the other hand, refers to a state where your mental bandwidth is stretched thin, even when the workload is manageable. Both conditions can appear similar—characterised by long hours and fatigue—and both can ultimately lead to burnout. Here’s what you can do: Measure your output: Is your effort turning into results? If not, rethink your approach. Focus on high-impact tasks and cut the clutter. It’s not about how much you’re working—it’s about what you’re working on. Shift your attention to tasks that move the needle. Reduce Interdependencies: Sometimes, you feel like you have nothing to show for your efforts because you’re waiting on someone else to finish their part. Reduce interdependencies where possible—take control of what you can, and stop waiting for others to dictate your progress. Recognise skill gaps and Upskill intentionally: If you’ve talked yourself into a role where the learning curve is overwhelming, you may need to focus on skill-building to ease the load. Too much time spent learning can feel like you're stuck in a loop. Know when to ask for support. Protect your time: No one can do everything. Delegate, Prioritise. Ruthless prioritisation is, in my opinion, the key to a meaningful and fulfilling career. As Warren Buffett says, "Pick your top 3 goals and delete the rest." Protect your time by focusing on what really matters. Take back control by minimising waiting games, sharpening your skills, and keeping your priorities sharp.     Leading airlines and travel companies are offering special packages as more Indians plan to travel this festive season, Anumeha Chaturvedi and Arindam Majumder report for The Economic Times. The period around Durga puja, Diwali, Dussehra and the winter season that follows is expected to boost the travel sector, the report says. Data from the Ministry of Civil Aviation shows that domestic travel has also increased, with visiting friends and family being a major driver. Sanjay Kumar, former CEO of Interglobe Technology Quotient points out that the surge has pushed Indian and global airlines to ramp up capacities on international flights. “Different segments like holidays and business travel present an optimistic forecast for the next nine months,” he adds. To cater to the surge, airlines are providing special price discounts, deploying larger flights in high demand routes, increasing capacity and increasing flight frequencies. Destinations such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Vietnam are gaining popularity along with short-haul destinations like Thailand, Malaysia and Dubai. In India, Goa, and Rajasthan are most sought after, the report says. Hotels are witnessing an uptick in reservations in offbeat and serene hill locations, the report adds.
