With this bold move, West Bengal becomes the first state in India to amend central laws to provide stronger penalties for such heinous crimes. Key Provisions of the 'Aparajita' Bill: - Enhanced Penalties: The bill introduces stringent penalties, including the death sentence for those convicted of rape if their actions lead to the victim's death or leave her in a vegetative state. The Vikriti team had the privilege of visiting the Animal Warriors Conservation Society(AWCS) a remarkable NGO dedicated to rescuing animals from distress and disasters. We spent the day immersing ourselves in the organization's work, exploring the shelter, and learning about their invaluable efforts.The day began with a detailed briefing that gave us a thorough overview of AWCS's goal, vision, and issues. were. Following the lecture, we took a guided tour of the shelter, beginning with the clinic, where injured and sick animals are treated by experts. The AWCS team's passion was clear throughout the clinic, as they worked tirelessly to bring these critters back to health. As we continued our tour, we were shown one of the most remarkable features of the shelter: a DIY pond. This natural habitat, lovingly created by the AWCS members and volunteers, serves as a sanctuary for various species of birds and animals. What made this pond even more special was the use of real aquatic plants sourced from different lakes around Hyderabad. This attention to detail not only provided a safe environment for the animals but also mimicked their natural habitat, offering them a sense of comfort and security. After the tour, our team engaged in a creative activity—painting pots. These pots, which are given out for free by the shelter, are filled with water to keep animals and birds hydrated, especially during the hot months. To ensure that the pots are used correctly, we painted "Water for Animals" on each one. It was heartening to see our team come together, using their artistic talents to decorate the pots, knowing that our efforts would help sustain the lives of many creatures. As the day drew to a close, the Vikriti team made a small contribution to AWCS by donating a few essential items which will undoubtedly aid the organization in their daily operations. Bidding farewell to the AWCS team was bittersweet, as we left with a newfound appreciation for their tireless work and the challenges faced by animals in our city. Our visit to the AWCS Animal Shelter was not just an educational experience, but also a reminder of the importance of compassion and responsibility towards all living beings. We are thrilled to share that Vikriti successfully hosted its second event on 13th July at The Desire Society, an all-girls orphanage. This event was a heartwarming experience for both the children and our dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers spent the day engaging in a variety of activities designed to bring joy and create lasting memories with the girls. The day started with enthusiastic games of badminton, where both the volunteers and the kids showcased their skills and enjoyed some friendly competition. Following the sports, we transitioned into a lively dance session. Music filled the air as everyone joined in, dancing and laughing together, creating an atmosphere of pure joy and connection. The dance session was a wonderful way for everyone to express themselves and bond over shared moments of happiness. In addition to the physical activities, we also organized a fun nail art playtime. This creative session allowed the girls to explore their artistic side, and our volunteers had a fantastic time helping them design and paint their nails. It was a delightful experience that added a splash of color and creativity to the day.
