Currently, transport systems contribute to almost a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, much of which are derived from cities. As things stand, the number of cars on the road are expected to double by 2030. So what kind of mobility systems do cities need for a low carbon urban future? Join us for our upcoming dialogue, where we try to answer that question. Experts will discuss current trends and challenges in low carbon mobility, and concepts like 15-minute cities, electric mobility, and more on the future of public transport. Register here: https://lnkd.in/dhEejcTr Joining us are Anna Walter-Dockx, PhD, behavioural economist and expert on sustainable habits at Austria's ÖBB, Karthikeyan Kuppu, strategy consultant with many years of experience in the mobility industry, and Surjyatapa Ray, researcher and urban designer at Jana Urban Space. Moderating the conversation will be Shantha Tara Venugopal, sustainability researcher at Transitions Research. The talk will be held on October 4th, 2024 from 5:30pm- 6:30pm. 🗓️ Friday, October 4th 🕠 5:30 p.m. (IST) India, like many developing countries, has experienced a surge in mobility and transportation-related emissions, with GHG emissions increasing by 224% between 2000 and 2019 (International Energy Agency (IEA)), much of it derived from urban areas. Limited public transportation provision, social norms and aspirations, convenience and comfort, and poor last mile infrastructure compel people to choose private vehicles to commute. As it stands, the number of cars on the road is expected to double by 2030, posing significant challenges to global sustainability and development goals. Join our upcoming dialogue on Friday, October 4th, at 5:30 PM for an engaging conversation to reimagine the future of transportation in cities: https://lnkd.in/dhEejcTr MoveInSync, SUN Mobility, Sustainable Mobility in India, Urban Resilience Dialogues, Jana Urban Space, Times.Green, Placemaking India, The Urban Lab , ITDP - India, C40 Cities, Smart Cities Mission, Urban Design Lab, Oasis Designs Inc.

In the run-up to #COP29, where the Global Resilience Partnership will launch a Call for Proposals for resilience solutions in informal settings, we, along with Global Resilience Partnership, are undertaking a study to better understand the scope for action. Currently, there is limited evidence on how for-profit and non-profit sectors can contribute to designing and implementing effective urban resilience solutions, particularly in informal contexts. We invite you to participate in a short survey which takes just 5-10 minutes to complete. Your insights will be valuable in shaping the upcoming urban resilience innovation challenge. If you’re involved in urban resilience efforts, especially in informal settings, we’d love to hear from you! Please take a moment to fill out our survey and feel free to share it with others in your network who are working on similar solutions. https://lnkd.in/gTh5xxZz UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), Cities Alliance, SDI. It’s 9 a.m. on a Monday morning as you leave home for work. There is a shaded, well-ventilated bus stop nearby and the walk to it is pleasant, with well-maintained footpaths without encroachments. At the stop, you see some familiar faces who take the bus with you regularly and exchange friendly smiles. A digital clock shows that the bus is 2 minutes away, and it arrives right on time. The electric bus drives in a dedicated bus-lane and takes 20 minutes to drop you off at work, where you arrive still fresh and unburdened by congestion, crowds, or pollution. Before we can realise a multi-modal, integrated, and low-carbon transportation system, it's crucial to address the challenges that lie ahead– What are the challenges limiting the adoption of walkable cities with multimodal integration? Can electrification help us transform mobility emissions? What kind of mobility systems do we need for a low-carbon urban future? Join us in our upcoming dialogue, “Transitioning Transport for Low Carbon Futures in Indian Cities?” on Friday, October 4th, at 5:30 pm(IST).
