Building Menstrual Health & Female Health Ecosystem| Shaping programs, informing policy through evidence
#MenstrualLeave is in the spotlight in India again. At Menstrual Health Action for Impact (MHAi), we are thinking about and digging into #menstrualhealth for women at work. Menstrual leave is undoubtedly an important discussion to have, and we invite you to use this opportunity to deliberate on these questions: ➡ Who all can and does menstrual leave apply to/relevant for? Who all does it exclude? What about women in the informal labor force? What about women in health care settings (nurses, doctors), frontline workers, teachers, women in leadership? How does menstrual leave play out for the diversity of women in the labor force? ➡ Is menstrual leave limiting the dialogue on menstrual health and women's health at work? Menstrual leave is one of several workplace provisions that can be instituted to make workplaces more responsive to the needs of women and those who menstruate. Not all will need leave, but all people who menstruate need a safe, private, clean toilet, and access to products. Should we not be looking at menstrual leave as a part of menstrual health at work? And how about placing this within the larger agenda of gender equality at work? ➡ What do we know about the impact or outcomes of menstrual leave policies that have been instituted? Do they really limit growth and opportunities at work? Does it compromise or lower women's workforce participation? Do women avail of these provisions and what are their lived experiences? We are thinking through these and more questions. If you want to brainstorm with us, leave a message for me, Tanya Dargan Mahajan or Menstrual Health Action for Impact (MHAi).
