Syngenta India launches I RISE to empower rural youth in agriculture across the country We're happy to announce the launch of I RISE program today, a uniquely designed CSR initiative, aimed at transforming rural agriculture in presence of Jeff Rowe, Syngenta Global CEO who is on a 2-day maiden trip to India. This was launched in presence of our MD & Country Head, Susheel Kumar and other senior leaders in New Delhi. I RISE (Inculcating Rural India Skill Enhancement) is built on the 3Es approach: Educate, Engage, and Elevate, ensuring sustainable livelihoods. Educate youth in agriculture through training and mentorship; Engage them through employment and entrepreneurship opportunities; and Elevate their livelihood income. Aimed at becoming a safety net for rural prosperity in India, I RISE will focus on training and engaging rural youth in agriculture. It is designed to curb youth migration from villages and address the growing challenge of dwindling skilled farm personnel. I RISE will train over 1 lakh rural youth in agriculture related livelihood opportunities, equipping them with the skills needed for the future. Under this initiative, youth will receive 30 days of classroom training and a 2-month internship, opening doors to employment in agriculture, micro-business, and more. Afterward, they can pursue advanced training or seek employment in the agricultural supply chain, micro-business, or farming activities. The CEO praised India's progress in agriculture and highlighted government's initiatives, such as Skill India and the National Skill Development Mission, as pivotal for rural prosperity. This belief inspired us to launch the I-RISE (Inculcate Rural India Skill Enhancement) program in 2023, aimed at empowering rural youth and providing them with dignified and sustainable income opportunities in the agricultural sector. Through our 3E approach—Educate, Engage, Elevate, we are equipping young minds with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive. The program educates youth through comprehensive training and mentorship in sustainable agricultural practices, engages them by offering pathways into the agri sector through employment, entrepreneurship, or leadership roles as lead farmers, and elevates their livelihoods by enhancing income opportunities. In collaboration with Syngenta Foundation India and other partners like Ch Charan Singh National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM), ICAR and KVKs, we are turning this vision into reality. Our pilot phase has already made significant strides, with 1000 rural youth in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand receiving training through a combination of classroom education and on-field internships. But this is just the beginning. As we move forward, our goal is to empower 6000 more rural youth in the next phase, and ultimately, 100000 youth in the long run. Indian farmers face a significant challenge in battling crop diseases and pests, with up to 23 percent of their crops lost to fungal diseases each year. To address this, Syngenta India has introduced two advanced crop protection products: Miravis® Duo and Reflect® Top., Miravis® Duo, utilising ADEPIDYN® technology, is an innovative fungicide suitable for tomatoes, chillies, groundnuts, and grapes. It effectively controls diseases such as powdery mildew, anthracnose, and leaf spots. This product ensures higher quality produce and improved yields, offering reliable disease protection and a strong return on investment. Reflect® Top, with double binding technology, is specifically designed for rice, a staple crop in India. It provides long-lasting defence against sheath blight, promoting healthier and more productive rice fields. This technology also ensures robust protection and maintains clean, green, and healthy stems. Dr K C Ravi, our Chief Sustainability Officer, shared his insightful views following the #UnionBudget 2024 presented by Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament yesterday. Appreciating the overall budget, he called it "a refreshingly no-frill budget that addresses the present realities and challenges of the agriculture sector. One of the standout announcements is the release of 109 high-yielding and climate-resilient varieties of 32 field and horticultural crops for cultivation, which marks a significant step forward in advancing agriculture. Collaborative research between public institutions and the private sector to develop newer climate-resilient varieties and farm practices for the various agro-climatic zones in the country will be crucial in helping farmers navigate and manage the emerging challenges in the coming years".
