Welcome to the 17th edition of Maverick Musings Newsletter! The Wayanad landslide disaster is a tragic reminder of the devastating impacts of climate change. Over 400 lives were lost and thousands were displaced. As climate change accelerates, the frequency and intensity of landslides and other extreme weather events are likely to increase. While many enjoy 'carbon privilege,' the world's poorest 3.5 billion people contribute little to carbon emissions but are most affected by climate impacts such as floods, storms, and droughts. It is imperative to invest in sustainable development, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience to protect vulnerable communities. The Sustera Foundation's GenRE Collective is a participatory climate finance model that aims to provide timely relief and build resilience in disaster-prone areas. #landslide #disaster #climateresilience #Inequality #Climatejustice #climatefinance #genre

Climate Action for a Resilient world!
About us
An increasing number of people, life forms and habitats are becoming vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Both anthropogenic and natural factors have contributed to climate change and there is an urgent need for creating awareness and taking action. Sustera foundation is a non-profit section 8 non-profit organization evolving with the aim of working with the communities to identify local level actions to ensure resilience through capacity building, outreach, and advocacy thus contributing to the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDG) for 2030. Resilience is meant in terms of sustainability in employment opportunities (especially among women), environment education focusing on the immediate ecosystem including climate/disaster education, need-based plan of action required for sustainable development, and capacity building for a disaster-resilient society. The word SUSTERA is derived from the latin words “SUS” meaning sustainable and “TERRA” meaning earth. The words Susthira in Malayalam and Susthir in Hindi/Sanskrit refers to sustainability.

In partnership with the Sustainable Mobility Network India, Waatavaran, SwitchON Foundation (Environment Conservation Society) and Asar, we are excited to be a part of raising awareness about issues faced by vulnerable sections of society—domestic workers, vendors, and children—due to our cities increasingly being designed for moving vehicles. - Prithvi has to travel across the city with his vegetable cart twice a day. For this, he has to navigate heavy traffic and hear horns and curses from car owners who feel he is slowing them down. Should someone who provides as essential a service as Prithvi not get a say in how our cities are designed? #MyAccessMatters #SafeSchoolsNow #RoadSafety #SustainableCities #ForTheFuture 🐝Sanju Soman Deepa Ananthapadmanabhan Souparna V Agnus Mariya Antony Sarath S Kurup Ashna M S Avinash Antony Thomas Roshni R Krishnan Gokul Gopakumar

We all love the convenience of ordering parcels, as it has made accessing various products and services incredibly easy for all of us. But have you thought about the environmental cost of this convenience? India is expected to see parcel deliveries grow from 4 billion to 40 billion by 2030, significantly increasing congestion in urban cities, #airpollution, and contributing towards #globalwarming. While we might not be able to completely stop deliveries, we can certainly think of innovative solutions to help companies reduce their emissions and propose policies for the government to adopt. If you have such ideas, come and apply for the India Evolve Innovation Challenge. Join us in this journey towards a sustainable future. Visit India Evolve Website to learn more and submit your proposals. 📌How to Participate 🤝Form a Team: Collaborate with your peers to brainstorm and develop impactful solutions (minimum or 2 members and max of 5 members) 🚲Identify a Problem: Focus on specific issues within last-mile delivery emissions. 🏆Propose a Solution: Draft a 300-word proposal outlining your solution and submit it through the application form on our website - https://lnkd.in/giGhNe8S. If your idea is shortlisted, you will be invited to a bootcamp where experts will help refine your proposal. The final round will present your solution to a panel of judges, offering a chance to win the grand prize.
