Because of its extreme lightweight, a carbon roof reduces the mass of the vehicle about 5 kilos com pared with a roof made of metal. One of the paramount benefits of using reactive in situ thermoplastic pultrusion is the enhanced recyclability of the produced components. Unlike thermoset composites, thermoplastic composites can be melted and reformed, thereby simplifying the recycling process and reducing waste. This characteristic is vital in today's global emphasis on sustainable manufacturing practices. The video shows in-situ process observation of thermoplastic pultrusion using glass-fibre / polypropylene commingled yarns. To reduce the load on the glass window, the polymer is slightly overheated to reduce the viscosity and the throughput is kept just around 100%. After the experiment, the polymer showed clear signs of degradation, highlighting that lower processing temperatures should be used for manufacturing.
