The Indian government will soon enable these workers to register on the e-Shram portal. The announcement was made by Union Labour & Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Mandaviya revealed that aggregators—companies that employ gig and platform workers—will play a crucial role in the registration process. "An online window will be provided to aggregators to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process," he stated. This development aims to integrate gig and platform workers into the social security net, similar to the benefits available to registered informal sector workers. The e-Shram portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, serves as a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW). It was created to streamline the delivery of welfare benefits and social security measures to workers in the unorganised sector. The portal facilitates the issuance of identity cards to these workers, allowing them to access various government schemes, benefits, and services more efficiently. Those registered on the e-Shram portal currently benefit from public life and accidental insurance, among other advantages. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi , has approved the establishment of a new semiconductor unit by Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd. This development marks the fifth semiconductor unit in the country, reinforcing India’s ambition to become a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing. Auto Ancillary firm Hindustan Composite has acquired a minority stake in IPO-bound online food delivery company Swiggy. The development comes days after Amitabh Bachchan’s family office picked up a minority stake in the Bengaluru-based company. Hindustan Composite’s board has reached an agreement with Swiggy to acquire 1,50,000 equity shares, resulting in an investment of Rs 5.17 crore, according to a disclosure made through the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The net worth of Swiggy stood at Rs 9,810 crore or $1.18 billion as of March 2023, the filing further added. The government has summoned the content head of OTT platform Netflix over the series 'IC-814 -- The Kandahar Hijack', which has triggered a row over depiction of hijackers. Official sources said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has summoned the content head of Netflix India on Tuesday, seeking an explanation on the allegedly contentious aspects of the OTT series. The depiction of hijackers of the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Delhi has kicked off a row with a section of viewers objecting to the 'humane' projection of the perpetrators. BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya said the hijackers of IC-814 were dreaded terrorists, who acquired aliases to hide their Muslim identities. "Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, legitimised their criminal intent, by furthering their non-Muslim names," Malviya posted on X. In a "peak Bengaluru" moment, a founder revealed that an intern at his company decided to give up the internship after his own AI startup received funding from a venture capitalist. Sharing a screenshot of the exchange on WhatsApp, Karthik Sridharan, the founder of Flexiple--which connects companies with software developers--said that an incident like this could have happened only in Bengaluru.
