Where do you find shapes around you? Take a few seconds and look around. What do you see? Maybe a square wall or a rectangular window. You might even see a cone-shaped hat! Guess what, our three-year-olds from Sparkling Mindz Global school, found shapes in their food! "See this sandwich, it's a square!" "No, It's a triangle!" said another. "No... See, my hand is like a triangle." Oh, how true! All the things around us can be broken down into simple shapes. Here is a glimpse of the things they created using the simple shapes! "This is a person!" said E, arranging shapes together and lying on them, replicating it. "This is a rocket space shuttle," declared A as he stepped on it and pretended to fly to places unknown! "This is a house," giggled P and T as they took shelter under a large square shape and sat on a chair. What else did they create, you ask? E stacked two circles to make a colourful burger. T pretended to fold a circle to create a sandwich with veggies inside, P and A arranged them into a tall clock, a robot and a Mantis just by rearranging a couple of shapes. Just by rearranging a couple of shapes, their imagination came to life. With just a shape over their heads, they felt safe from invisible rain. A few twists and turns, and they brought the world to their fingertips. Stay tuned to find out what else our Preschoolers explore through the year! Shapes, shapes! Oh, how shapes shape our lives. #sparklingmindzglobalpreschool #inpiringconfidentlearners #playbasedlearning #reggioemiliainspired

The recent floods brought an unexpected visitor—a small crab, missing one of its pincers, who found its way to us. Before we knew, we had our preschoolers crowding around the crab, wonder in action. Instantly, the children’s curiosity sparked a wave of questions and ideas: “Can we give it food?” “Why is it opening its mouth?” “What if we give it an egg?”—“No, he won’t like egg.” “Then let’s give him a potato!” “Maybe we should ask H Sir what crabs eat.” “It has green eyes!” “We want to take care of him.” One child chimed in, “I like to eat carbs.” Another giggled, “You like to eat this crabs, huh?” “Can we put it in our turtle pond?” someone asked. “Because it likes to swim!” “I’ve only seen pretend crabs.” Together, they gently carried the little crab to their turtle pond, believing this would be the perfect home. With wide smiles and hands held tight, they watched over their new friend, buzzing with excitement as though they’d accomplished something truly special and their collective joy filled the space. In moments like these, nature’s disruptions become opportunities for empathy, connection, and joy. Despite the floods changing our routines, they can’t wash away the children’s sense of wonder. This little crab, with its missing pincer, is more than a visitor—it’s a reminder of how young hearts can learn resilience, kindness, and care for the world around them. #sparklingmindzglobalpreschool #inspiringconfidentlearners #empathybasedlearning #wonderbasedlearning #facilitatordiaries #problemstoprojects

*Mixing the Language of Materials* Children learn through Hundred Languages! During ITP (Invitation to Play) in Sparkling Mindz Preschool, they play with hundreds of materials that have their own language. Children, in turn, learn to listen to these languages! Today was the language of Cotton! They explored with various techniques - An, aged 4, shared, “I am making it like a dough, I am pressing it and pinching it." Au, aged 5 declared “I'm breaking the little pieces to make a forest." Pr, aged 3, pounded the cotton with his fist and said “Making a chapati." Sia, aged 5, stacked and pressed cotton pieces together so it would hold its shape. As they did this, J, aged 6, excitedly asked, "Can I have some foam?” and all of a sudden, and a clamour of “Me too!” resounded through the atelier. But why did they want foam? “To make curd, Foam and Cotton is white and it will make white curd!” “To make a cake, I need foam...” “If we mix foam and cotton, we can roll it. “I want to experiment!” And guess what happened? These experimenters went aboard the explore train. Here are some of the things they found- “By the time I wiped it, the cotton became so big, like a radish.” “It turned yellow when I rubbed it!” “It is becoming slimy like curd!” “It is becoming sticky." “I'm pulling the foam from the cotton now!” In this way, the children learned to listen to the mixed-up languages of two different mixed-up materials, creating a mix-up of multiple experiences too! #sparklingmindzglobalpreschool #inspiringconfidentlearners #playbasedlearning #21stcenturyskills #reggioemiliaapproach #preschoolers

Are you someone who believes that language is more than just words and grammar, but a gateway to understanding cultures, perspectives, and human connection? Do you find joy in the nuances of language, and want to inspire that passion in others? We are inviting individuals who truly love languages to join our team! Here, language is seen as a bridge to new worlds, a tool for expression, and a means to connect deeply with others. We learn languages not just for communication, but to appreciate the richness they bring to our lives, stories, and shared experiences. If you’re excited to share your love for languages and help young minds explore the beauty of different tongues, we’d love to hear from you. Sreeja Iyer is hiring! Click on the link below and apply! Let's form our tribe.
Why learn languages? Isn't it enough for us to be able to communicate in one language? Asked a bunch of curious children. ⏩ "Language helps us connect with people", said one of them. Suddenly the room was abuzz with discussion on which languages each of them wanted to learn, where they wanted to travel, and who they wanted to connect with. Some research later they realized there are 6000+ languages. "How will we ever learn so many!" they sighed. Well, what about the top 10 spoken languages in the world? That might give us a good chance. After all, many people speak more than one language. What is the biggest overlap? They figured that it was Mandarin, Spanish, English, and lo behold! ----- Hindi as the top 4 languages. "Can we learn all of them? Is there a way?" they begged in chorus. ⏩ "Language transmits stories and stories speak of culture," said another. A silence followed as they mulled over this, "What languages should we learn if we wanted to learn about our ancient cultures?" "Sanskrit, Latin, Arabic..." and more as they explored what ancient texts were written in and what ancient cultures must have used as a language to communicate. "That explains why people learn languages that are dead!" exclaimed one of them. ⏩"Language affects the way we think," came a voice that was deep in contemplation throughout the discussion. Some languages are closer together in their structure and vocabulary than others. In India, most of our children are multilingual from birth. However, reading literature, singing songs, and conversing in multiple languages that are semantically different can enable neurons to fire and build pathways in interesting ways. So, the search began in the class on how languages differ and how that is making us think or be different. The search continues... The language lab at Sparkling Mindz is our effort to make language learning joyous, accessible, and meaningful for children. Learning a language is not a trivial exercise but a love for languages with a deep sense of discovery can turn this into a joyful lifelong journey. Language learning is an act of immersing yourself as an active researcher into culture, context, place, time, communities, the people and their motivations. Today many languages (including several Indian languages) are on the verge of extinction and need labs that encourage tinkering rather than museums that preserve them. These languages are living in the past, we need them to stay present if we hope for them to stay alive. If you see yourself as a language warrior and nodding vehemently as you read this post do apply. We would love to hear from you about your passion for and adventures with language learning. You might just find in us a like-minded #tribe of educators who are equal parts passionate and equal parts crazy about driving child-centric learning. We are #hiring! “Your mind is your strongest muscle.” —Tunde Oyeneyin How true this claim is, especially when you're doing long -distance running! If you've ever done running in your life, the panting, the burning, the initial pain...to slowly finding your pace and rhythm, staying with your breathing, allowing your mind to run wild and then slowly coming into a state of peaceful co-existence! A run is so much more than just a physical activity. It's also building strength to stay with your body and mind especially when it tells you to quit, to understanding your tendencies, and a space where you get to learn to strategise. Our children had their first long -distance running of this academic this Thursday. Reflecting on the process they followed, they agreed in unison on committing to working on themselves to achieve more distance, building resilience and endurance. A run isn't just a run, it's a path to self-discovery! #sparklingmindzgloblschool #longdistancerunning #inspiringconfidentlearners #buildingendurance #selfempowerment Sreeja Iyer Happy Minesh Poorva Agarwal Shraavya Siri Aswathy Panicker Chaitra Neerubhavi Sruthy Krishna Disha HK Sumati Vinay Narasimhan

✨ "Emotions are like waves, they pass by." 🌊 During a recent circle time, we explored how we were feeling. Jo expressed anger about an idea and openly shared: 🗣 "I want to be angry because I like being that way." This led us into a deep inquiry—are emotions meant to stay, or do they move like clouds? Na offered a beautiful metaphor: 🎶 "Emotions are like a flow in a song." Si reflected: 🌊 "Emotions are like waves, they pass by." When asked what happens when we hold on to one emotion, Si continued: 🌊 "When we hold on to one wave and keep going behind it, we don’t allow it to pass, and new waves don’t come." Aa added: 🌈 "New emotions don’t come to us, we will only have one all the time." This conversation opened space for children to metaphorically represent their feelings, understand their transience, and recognize the beauty of letting emotions flow through us, allowing new ones to emerge. At Sparkling Mindz, we believe in creating these safe spaces where children can express and explore emotions, nurturing holistic, child-centered learning. 🌱✨ #sparklingmindzglobal #inspiringconfidentlearners #emotionsmatter #socialemotionallearning

At Sparkling Mindz, learning goes beyond just mastering the fundamentals. Here, children's natural curiosity is our most powerful tool. When we tap into this curiosity, it allows them to deepen and widen their understanding of the world around them. Today, during our exploration of diphthongs and digraphs, a curious 5-year-old remarked, "The word diphthong sounds like a Chinese word." This observation sparked a collective journey into the origins of the word. Through our research, we discovered that "diphthong" is of Greek origin. This revelation led to a series of imaginative hypotheses: "All superheroes thought to make the world Greek." "They wrote the Greek language on caves long, long years ago." "In the olden days, Greek was the language." "I think it’s another kind of language." Driven by curiosity, the children decided to explore further, learning about how Alexander the Great's conquests spread the Greek language across different parts of the world. When children connect with their learning through wondrous play they dive into the depths of the how's and why's. This approach allows them to engage with language as a living, breathing entity with its own rich history and journey that we can connect to and derive meaning from. Learning, then, is an extension of living and not an academic exercise, but a deeply purposeful and enriching experience. #sparklingmindzglobalpreschool #playbasedlearning #explorationbasedlearning #inspiringconfidentlearners #facilitatordiaries

Great discussion with fellow panelists Parth Sarwate Dr. Sonali Dasgupta (PhD) Saji Varghese on 'Designing learning Solutions for future of education". Jewel of a take away on big ticket reforms in education - Change in education is slow( painfully slow) and educational institutions change the character of reforms rather than vice versa. A big shout out to all parents and students who graced the occasion and congratulations to Chaitra Neerubhavi for superb coordination and anchoring and Aswathy Panicker for a very luicd articulation of India hertiage. Events are not just a place to show an output. For us at Sparkling Mindz, events are spaces where the community comes together to experience the living, breathing system that we are, together. Events portray the journey and process children have gone through to reach where they have reached, with their discoveries. On the 10th, we celebrated our 77th Independence Day where both Preschool and School performed their own versions of their exploration of their identities as Indians. The day started with a panel discussion with a few changemakers from across India who play key roles in the education sector. While the Preschool children showcased their journey towards their understanding of freedom and how they are experiencing it, school children explored their exploration of the India that used to be, and the India that we know now (split into the Ancient, Medieval, and Modern eras of India). Who is the India that we know of? How did India become what we know of today? Here is the snippet of the event. What do you think India was and is? Share in the comments.
