How does an identity become a tool for a nation's social and economic development? Our CEO, Mr. Rajesh Bansal, conducted a Masterclass for the RBIH team on Building Digital Public Infrastructure, drawing from his role in establishing Aadhaar, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), eKYC, and AePS. Back in 2009, nearly half of India’s population lacked formal identification, and opening a bank account often required references from existing account holders. “When I joined the then six-member Aadhaar team in 2010, I wrote my own job description. It was just one line - If a billion people will have Aadhaar, then a billion people should have a bank account”, Mr. Bansal said. Today, Aadhaar stands as the cornerstone of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure journey, enabling financial inclusion and social empowerment by ensuring that every citizen, regardless of background, has an identity they can rely on.
