More than 86% of India's farmers are small and marginal and they need to be facilitated with access to improved technology, credit, better input, and more markets to incentivize them to produce better quality commodities. The aggregation of small, marginal, and landless farmers into #FPOs is the cornerstone for enhancing economic strength and market linkages of farmers to enhance their income. To effect this, Walmart Foundation's support to #PRADAN through project #PROWFIT (Prowess of organized ResOurces & Women-farmers for transforming FPOs into Independent insTitutions), has been catalytic in building sustainable communities by creating livelihood opportunities for the marginalized. The collaborative efforts enabled us to form, nurture and grow FPOs and facilitate them to become self-sustaining business entities that can interact and negotiate with various market actors, community institutions and the local administration on their own. 'Empowering Women, Elevating Communities' is a coffee table book that bears ample testimony to the impact the collaborative project has been able to achieve - underscoring community resilience and efforts to enhance their income and overall well-being to help them live a more meaningful and dignified life. Celebrating Success: HDFC Bank Parivartan Project 'Doubling the Income of Rural Women in Kondagaon and Raigarh districts' culminates in Chhattisgarh! PRADAN, in partnership with HDFC Bank Ltd., recently celebrated the successful culmination of the Parivartan Project, aimed at Doubling the Income of Rural Women in Kondagaon and Raigarh districts of Chhattisgarh. The three-year project (October 2021 to September 2024) focused on improving the livelihoods of 15,000 women across 150 villages in the Kondagaon, Raigarh, and Lailungan blocks. Key achievements include increased income for these women, enhanced irrigation facilities, and the conversion of uncultivable land into fertile, productive plots. The closing events, held at both locations, were attended by several dignitaries, including Ms. Lata Usendi (Member of Legislative Assembly, Kondagaon), Mr. Nirakar Patel (Zila President), Mr. Praveen Tripathy (DMM-CGSRLM), Mr. B. S. Rajput (District Director, KVK Raigarh), and officials from HDFC Bank Ltd. The day’s activities included field visits showcasing innovative practices such as drip irrigation and multilayer farming, trellis methods for creeper patches, vegetable nursery sheds, poultry and goat rearing models, organic pest and manure model through Nadep compost pits patch, and mushroom cultivation. Inspiring speeches from Self-Help Group members highlighted the transformative journey, and the event also featured the launch of a book chronicling the stories of 30 women farmers as well as a documentary film—offering a powerful glimpse into their resilience and determination.
