  • 📈🚢 Record Growth in Container Ship Capacity!🚢📈 The container ship industry has seen its biggest growth in 15 years, with fleet capacity surging by 11% in the first half of 2024! 🏆 Shipyards delivered 264 ships totaling 1.6 million TEU, a remarkable two-thirds more than the previous year. This expansion brings the total fleet capacity to 29.5 million TEU. Niels Rasmussen, Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO, attributes this surge to high demand and a low recycling rate, with only 36 ships (51k TEU) recycled so far. 📉 Despite this record growth, shipowners continue to place new orders, maintaining a robust order book-to-fleet ratio of 19%. 📚 With orders extending to 2028 and an expected average of 1.5 million TEU annually from 2025 to 2027, the 12k-17k TEU segment now leads the fleet, up 25% year on year. 🚢🔝 Ships larger than 17k TEU now make up only 17% of the order book, reflecting a shift towards more versatile mid-sized vessels. By the third quarter of 2024, container fleet capacity is set to exceed 30 million TEU, reaching 30.5 million by year-end. 🌍📦 However, as cargo volume growth may not keep pace, an increase in ship recycling is anticipated to manage fleet expansion. Additionally, any changes in route operations through the Red Sea and Suez Canal could impact demand. #ContainerShipping #FleetExpansion #MaritimeIndustry #ShippingNews #ShipOrders #Logistics #SupplyChain #ShippingTrends #BIMCO #PortDevelopment #GlobalTrade

  • 🚢🌟 Historic Milestone for Vizhinjam Port!🌟🚢 Adani Ports & SEZ (APSEZ) has marked a significant achievement with the arrival of the first mother ship at the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala! 🏆 This momentous event marks India's entry into the global transshipment market and positions Vizhinjam as a key player on international trade routes. As Kerala's largest private sector investment, this fully automated port features cutting-edge container handling equipment and advanced IT systems. The 300-meter-long vessel, **San Fernando**, operated by Maersk and boasting a capacity of 8,000-9,000 TEUs, unloaded around 2,000 containers at this state-of-the-art facility. Karan Adani, APSEZ’s Managing Director, celebrated this milestone as a transformative moment in Indian maritime history, showcasing Vizhinjam’s sophisticated technology and future potential. 🚀 This development is set to revolutionize India’s maritime logistics by reducing our reliance on foreign ports for transshipment. With 75% of India's transshipped cargo currently handled abroad, Vizhinjam aims to handle critical international trade routes and enhance connectivity between the US, Europe, Africa, and the Far East. 🌍📦 Here’s to a new era in Indian maritime logistics! 🌐🇮🇳 #VizhinjamPort #MaritimeMilestone #AdaniPorts #Transshipment #IndianLogistics #GlobalTrade #PortDevelopment #InnovationInPorts #India #MaritimeIndustry #SupplyChain #TradeRoutes

With a vast, tech-savvy population of over 1.41 billion, the potential is enormous. As Shiprocket highlights, India's internet usage is set to exceed 1.2 billion in 2023, fueling this rapid expansion. The surge in e-commerce orders is a testament to this growth, with North India's share rising from 26% in 2021 to 29% in 2023. Overall, order volumes have doubled, soaring from 8 crores in 2021 to 16 crores in 2023. • International Freight Operations Begin from Mangaluru Airport 🌍✈️ Mangaluru International Airport marked a milestone on July 2, 2024, by launching international cargo operations. The inaugural flight, operated by Air India Express, carried 2,522 kg of fresh produce to Abu Dhabi. The official launch on July 5 saw participation from the AAHL Cargo team, airport leadership, and representatives from Customs, IndiGo, Air India Express, and CISF. The airport's state-of-the-art air cargo complex offers essential services, including separate warehouse space for export-import goods, a dedicated customs office, bonded trucking facilities, temperature-controlled storage for perishables, strong rooms for valuable cargo, and comprehensive mail handling services. As Karnataka's second busiest airport, Mangaluru Airport had already begun domestic cargo operations on May 1, 2023. By May 10, 2024, it was designated as a customs cargo service provider, enabling it to expand into international cargo operations. This development is set to boost exporters in coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and surrounding regions by facilitating the export of perishables and other goods to destinations such as Dubai, Doha, Dammam, Kuwait, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, and Bahrain via IndiGo and Air India Express. On the domestic front, the airport handled an impressive 3,706 tons of cargo in its first 11 months of operation during the fiscal year 2023-24. Notably, 95% of this outbound cargo consisted of post-office mail, including important documents like bank and UIDAI paperwork. Mangaluru Airport is one of the seven airports operated by Adani Airport Holdings, which is also spearheading the construction of the Navi Mumbai International Airport. #AirCargo #Logistics #InternationalTrade #MangaluruAirport #ExportImport #SupplyChain #Aviation #AdaniAirports #GlobalLogistics #TradeOpportunities

  • Air Freight Demand Remains Robust in May 🚀✈️ According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), air cargo demand continued its strong upward trend in May, with a 14.7% year-on-year increase. This marks the sixth consecutive month of double-digit growth, with international operations seeing an even more significant boost of 15.5%. Capacity also expanded during this period, growing by 6.7% overall and 10.2% in international markets. Several factors contributed to this robust performance, including a rise in the global manufacturing PMI, industrial production, and a mixed picture of global inflation rates. Regional Performance: - 🌏 Asia-Pacific: Demand surged by 17.8%, with the Africa-Asia route leading with a 40.6% increase. - 🌍 North America: Experienced the slowest growth, at 8.7%, though the Asia-North America route still grew by 12%. - 🇪🇺 Europe: Saw a 17.2% increase in demand, with intra-European cargo up by a remarkable 25.6%. - 🌍 Middle East: Demand rose by 15.3%. - 🌎 Latin America: Recorded a 12.7% increase in demand. - 🌍 Africa: Showed an 18.4% growth, with the Africa-Asia route experiencing the highest rise at 40.6%. • Carriers Optimistic About Peak Season, Minimize Blank Sailings 🚢📦 As we approach the annual peak cargo season for container shipping, Sea-Intelligence's latest analysis highlights strong carrier confidence for the third quarter of 2024. Here's what you need to know: Asia-North America West Coast: - 🔄 Blank Sailings: Carriers plan to blank just 3.9% of total capacity, aligning with pre-pandemic levels and 2020, but significantly lower than during the pandemic when port congestion was rampant. - 📈 Capacity Growth: Capacity is expected to grow by 24.6% compared to 2023 and 10.2% compared to 2020, showing carriers' bullish outlook for the peak season. Asia-North Europe: - 🔄 Blank Sailings: Blank capacity for the next 11 weeks stands at 5.9%, slightly above 2020 and pre-pandemic norms. - 📉 Capacity Growth:No year-over-year capacity growth in 2024, but the 2023 surge of 13.1% exceeded demand, leading to dropping freight prices. Despite this, the low level of blank sailings indicates confidence in a strong peak season. Overall, this data suggests that carriers are expecting robust demand and are strategically managing capacity and blank sailings to optimize performance. #SupplyChain #Shipping #ContainerShipping #Logistics #PeakSeason #FreightForwarding #GlobalTrade #Maritime #Transport #ShippingIndustry
