Kerala University Patents Diabetic Wound Dressing with Ferulic Acid-Infused Hydrogel Kerala University has patented an innovative wound dressing designed specifically for diabetic patients. Developed by Biochemistry research scholar Fathima Rumaisa under the guidance of Prof. Mini S., this biocompatible hydrogel film, titled “Synthesis of Ferulic Acid Incorporated Alginate Dialdehyde Gelatin Hydrogel Film,” leverages ferulic acid for its antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic properties. Enhanced with L-Proline for collagen support, the dressing not only promotes healing but also changes color to indicate infection, making it a unique advancement in diabetic wound care. Apple Wins Patent Case Against Masimo, Awarded Minimal Damages Apple won a recent patent infringement lawsuit in Delaware against Masimo, where a jury determined that earlier models of Masimo’s W1 and Freedom smartwatches infringed on two Apple design patents, resulting in a symbolic $250 award for Apple. Apple sought the ruling primarily to secure an injunction against Masimo’s current smartwatch models, but the jury found no infringement on the latest models. Masimo, based in Irvine, California, hailed the decision as a victory, noting the limited scope of the ruling, which applied only to discontinued Masimo products. SEGA Sues Bank of Innovation,Inc. Over Alleged Patent Infringement in MementoMori: AFKRPG SEGA has filed a lawsuit against Japanese game developer Bank of Innovation (BOI), creators of MementoMori: AFKRPG, seeking ¥1 billion ($6.7 million) in damages. SEGA alleges that BOI infringed on five of its patents, including a system designed to ease the psychological burden of using in-game items with low drop rates, such as rare character cards. The lawsuit, filed in Tokyo District Court, also seeks an injunction to stop the game's operation. BOI denies the infringement claims but states it will continue to support the game, regardless of the outcome. The five patents cited by SEGA in its lawsuit against BOI are: Patent No. 5930111: An alternative card reader for games that require cards to access the game data. Patent No. 6402953: Refers to a system that “eases player awareness of their spending on Gacha spins or rolls. Patent No. 6891987: This system simplifies character reinforcement by clearly presenting the necessary information, especially when dealing with multiple instances of the same character. Patent No. 7297361: The key difference between this patent and the above one is that the patent regarding reinforcement synthesis was issued in 2017, and this patent was issued in 2021. News Corp Sues AI Search Engine Perplexity for Copyright Infringement News Corp has filed a lawsuit against AI search startup Perplexity, accusing it of illegally using copyrighted content from outlets like The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post. Perplexity’s chatbot allegedly allows users to bypass original publishers by summarizing their content, impacting revenues.
