    Quick commerce has been a booster shot for the FMCG startup ecosystem. We started working with Blinkit approximately 2 years ago. The jury was still out there, writing them off and drawing parallels from markets where the model had failed. I still remember me and Akash Sharma taking that bold call in a meeting room to commit large budgets to this channel starting from blinkit which meant deprioritising other channels at that time. Over the last 2 years, we have seen the quick commerce ecosystem assert its presence as something that is here to stay and has fundamentally altered buying behaviors. We have enjoyed working with Albinder Dhindsa and his team at Blinkit. The culture, the operational efficiencies, and the category understanding that they have developed is just top class. We are excited to work with this team as we unlock further growth and market access.     Had an inspiring and wholesome discussion with Aadit Palicha last week at Zepto's office. Was thrilled to see the kind of growth they envision over the next 2 years.     56% of India’s disease burden comes from unhealthy eating. Like it or not, healthy snacking has to be a reality… 70% of us enjoy snacking while having our evening tea or coffee. But, some of this is seriously affecting us. We’re now the second largest diabetes population and the third largest obese one in the world. Yes, the Indian snacks market is expected to double by 2032 to ₹95K crore. But, even today, for most Snacks = Deep-fried or Palm Oil filled foods like chips, pakodas, samosas, etc. So, clearly we need a change. Last week, I was at the India Healthy Snacking Summit organized by my friends at Farmley. We deep dived into trends and they also unveiled an interesting report on trends going forward. Here’s what I learned: → Reading the label is becoming a habit 🏷 73% Indians now check ingredients before choosing their favorite snack. Yes, Revant (on stage with me) has a lot to do with it. I’m already seeing brands actively spreading awareness about their production practices and labels . This wasn’t part of the marketing stack before. We need to do it more, and we need to do it at scale. → The price gap needs to get smaller 💸 58% Indians identify high costs as the biggest obstacle to adopting healthy snacking options. I believe there’s still a lot of whitespace to build a better priced products. We learned the magic number in food is 20% higher. Price above that and the consumer may go back to their old habits. → Traditional snacks dominate ☕ 67% Indians opt for dry fruits, makhanas or other indigenous recipes as snacks over biscuits, chips, noodles etc. primarily because of the local taste palette. I’ve already said this before, and I’ll say it again: Indianisation and contextualisation is crucial in every product that really wants to penetrate :) For me, the future of snacking in India will be based on creating a win-win – taste and price that doesn’t compromise on health. I also asked a question that I don’t have the answer for yet. So I’ll ask you… What is the real meaning healthy snack? Something slightly better i.e. a bhujia which uses vegetable oil instead of palm oil. OR A low calorie baked version I think we’re on a journey and so we’ll start with the former and eventually reach the latter. You?
