New Chapter begins at CynLr! We inaugurated our new Design & Research Center in Switzerland on September 26th. This facility will advance our goal of “Inventing in India and building for the world” At CynLr, we are simplifying automation by allowing robots to interact with their environment as humans do. By using neuroscience as the foundation of our machine learning models, we eliminate the need for customised training and enable robots to grasp, comprehend, and manipulate objects in complex and unpredictable environments. Our new research partnerships with Switzerland’s leading institutions will accelerate the advancement of these capabilities. We’ve partnered with CSEM to build advanced compute capabilities for our vision platform and EPFL’s LASA to further develop CyRo’s Multi-Arm Dynamic Manipulation Engine. To support this growth, we’ve hired Dr. Michael Bombile, who has over a decade of experience in advanced robotics research at EPFL. To strengthen our research and engineering team, we are actively hiring talent with expertise in neuroscience, vision algorithms, hardware design, application engineering, and software architecture. Taking advantage of the facility’s strategic location near key European markets, including major automotive centers in Germany, France, and Italy, we’ll also be building dedicated business teams and work in tandem with the industry. This new beginning marks a significant milestone for us and we’re thankful to every one of our partners who’ve helped us reach here. Nobody likes change, not even robots. According to Business Standard, Amazon 𝗵𝗶𝘁 24,196 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲. When you’re operating at such a scale, even the tiniest level of change like a package being placed in a different position can lead to huge costs. On the other hand, Amazon has 500000 commodities being replaced every month. How do we train all these items? 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵! This has rendered robot adoption to a bottle neck and slowed down robot adoption. Even today, robots picking and placing generic items is commercially hard to realize. What if a robot could pick and place without any training. Like a baby, "learning on the go". Since these modules are pre-programmed to move in a certain manner, humans are needed to sort the packages and place them in a way that robotic module can handle, leading to duplicated efforts. 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱? CynLr’s robots being able to handle unknown objects without the need for prior training will be crucial in transforming such tasks. Last week, we had the honour of hosting Werner Vogels, the CTO of Amazon at our research facility in Bengaluru and understanding some of the problems they are trying to solve at Amazon Robotics. We also discussed how we can further develop our vision platform, CLX, leveraging Amazon’s technical expertise and co-build with them to productise our technology for the supply chain industry. We are excited to use these insights and develop robots that can adapt to a wider range of scenarios and help make automation seamless. Before computers, searching for a specific topic was a challenging task. But what if you forgot the exact words or headings? What would you do? Imagine yourself in a grand library, surrounded by towering shelves of books, journals, and archives. Without the right keywords or titles, you’re left searching through endless rows of books and files—a frustrating and time-consuming task. Librarians, archivists, and data entry clerks were responsible for cataloging, preserving documents, and manually inputting data into systems, often requiring you to sift through outdated, irrelevant, or incomplete information for days while managing the physical space and logistical headaches of countless records. Fast forward to today, and the tasks once handled by librarians, archivists, and data entry clerks are now performed by software engineers. They design and build the search algorithms and databases that power search engines, creating systems capable of sifting through vast amounts of data in seconds. Software engineers are at the forefront of this transformation. 𝗜𝗻 2020, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘀 55.3 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻- 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗵𝗶. Now, imagine a future where universal factories can produce all your necessities in one place—a single factory capable of making your coffee machine, car, laptop, and cell phone. Just as computers have transformed data processing, what if factories underwent a similar revolution? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮? Did you know the 𝗨.𝗦. 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁 $1.3 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 on 𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 in 2019? 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, even though it can create stunning poems and paintings? It’s surprising that today’s robots can’t even fit a screw into a nut without slipping. To assemble such simple parts, 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀. Not only this, but manufacturing still relies heavily on repetitive manual tasks—moving parts, assembling items—all despite soaring labor costs. So, what’s the catch? Current robots use color images and patterns to recognize objects, but they fall short with reflective or hidden items. Why? 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. Our brains process visual information continuously, making it easy for us to adapt to new situations. Robots, on the other hand, struggle when faced with anything beyond basic, pre-programmed scenarios. At CynLr we’re transforming robotics with our Vision-Guided System, designed to tackle the real-world challenges of manufacturing. Our technology allows robots to handle tricky tasks, like picking up reflective or cluttered objects, and smoothly switch between different products on the same production line. CynLr’s platform enables robotic arms to adapt to new and unfamiliar objects, making assembly lines more versatile and cost-effective.
