The Indian Army. has been granted the power to directly issue notices to social media intermediaries for the removal of unlawful content related to its operations. The Ministry of Defence of India has appointed the Additional Directorate General (ADG) of Strategic Communication as the "nodal officer" for this purpose, as per Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act. Previously, the Army relied on the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to take down illegal content, which often resulted in delays. Now, the ADG can swiftly highlight and issue takedown notices for misinformation, especially from hostile entities. This new protocol is expected to expedite responses to threats to national security and the Army’s reputation. While the exact number of takedown notices issued post-notification remains unclear, the initiative represents a significant shift in how the Army addresses harmful online content. Legal experts have noted concerns regarding the implications of Section 79(3)(b), which expands the authority for issuing such notices. #IndianArmy #OnlineContentRemoval #Cybersecurity #InformationTechnologyAct #SocialMedia #Misinformation #NationalSecurity #DigitalRights #ContentRegulation #DefenceMinistry #TechNews #MeitY #ADG

On October 29, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet Inc., revealed that over a quarter (25%) of Google’s new code is now generated by AI, marking a transformative shift in the company’s approach to productivity. Speaking during the Q3 earnings call, Pichai explained that while AI contributes significantly to code production, the generated code undergoes thorough review by Google’s engineering teams to ensure quality and accuracy. Over the past year, Google has streamlined its organizational structure to boost efficiency, cut costs, and enhance agility. A key move was merging its AI research teams, Google Brain and Google DeepMind, into a unified Google DeepMind division. The introduction of the Gemini series of AI models has accelerated Google’s advancements, with the recent transfer of the Gemini app team to Google DeepMind to speed up the development and deployment of new models. Alphabet’s Q3 results reflected strong growth, with revenues up by 15% to $88.3 billion, driven largely by a 35% increase in its cloud division. Pichai emphasized that Google’s long-term investments in AI are now yielding results, with Gemini AI models powering seven Google products that each serve over 2 billion monthly users. Alphabet is also investing heavily in AI infrastructure, with capital expenditure rising by 62% to $13.1 billion. CFO Anat A. highlighted plans to keep refining operations, balancing growth with cost-effectiveness. #Google #AI #SundarPichai #Alphabet #TechNews #Innovation #MachineLearning #CloudComputing #BigData #DigitalTransformation #GeminiAI #Colossus #TechTrends
