About us
This is the official page of Coal India Limited. Coal India Limited (CIL) the state-owned coal mining corporate came into being in November 1975. CIL, today is the single largest coal producer in the world and one of the largest corporate employer with manpower of 228,861 (as on 1st April, 2024). Coal India Limited has 313 mines (as of 1st April 2024) of which 131 are underground, 168 opencast, and 14 mixed mines and also manages other establishments like workshops, hospitals, and so on. CIL is a Maharatna company - a privileged status conferred by the Government of India to select state-owned enterprises in order to empower them to expand their operations and emerge as global giants. The select club has only ten members out of more than three hundred Central Public Sector Enterprises in the country. CIL has twelve fully owned subsidiary companies viz. Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), CIL Navi Karniya Urja Limited for development of non-conventional//clean & renewable energy and CIL Solar PV Limited for development of solar photovoltaic module and Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Ltd. In addition, CIL has a foreign subsidiary in Mozambique namely Coal India Africana Limitada (CIAL). Further CIL has four Joint Venture companies- Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited, Talcher Fertilizers Ltd., CIL NTPC Urja Pvt. Ltd. and Coal Lignite Urja Vikas Private Limited. The mines in Assam i.e. North Eastern Coalfields (NEC) are managed directly by CIL.

AI DUSTBIN FOR PLASTIC BOTTLE COLLECTION AT COAL INDIA As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, we have installed an AI dustbin at our corporate headquarters in Kolkata. Our Chairman, Shri P. M. Prasad, FDs and CVO observed the operational features of the innovative dustbin. This advanced dustbin is specifically designed for collecting plastic bottles and features an automated notification system. "SWACHHTA HI SEWA" CAMPAIGN 2024 COMMENCES Our Chairman Shri P. M. Prasad administered the "Swachhta Pledge" to employees to mark the commencement of the Swacchata Hi Sewa 2024 at our corporate headquarters in Kolkata. The Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign, will run from 14th of September to the 2nd of October, 2024. This year’s theme is "Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata", emphasizing behavioural change and building a sustainable waste management ecosystem from source to disposal. A plethora activities have been planned during the campaign period such as installation of Installation of AI Dustbins Cleanliness drive at significant locations/tourist/pilgrim site Plantation Drive with the theme “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” Waste to Art Installations, Swachh Food Streets, Nutrition Camp and Health check-up for Safai karamcharis.
