The programme focused on BAIF’s multi-sectoral development interventions, exploring critical areas such as natural resource management, sustainable farming models, and renewable energy solutions. Participants also gained hands-on experience through field visits to projects on women’s empowerment, livestock-based livelihoods, and clean energy technologies. BAIF Participation in Chintan Shibir for Mission ‘ViksitBharat@2047 for Scheduled Tribes’ by Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat Dr Raviraj Jadhav Jadhav, Regional Director – West, BAIF, and Mr. jayanti mori, State Head, BAIF Livelihoods Gujarat, represented the BAIF Development Research Foundation at this event, organised by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat, from October 24 to 26. BAIF is recognised as a key stakeholder in livelihood enhancement for the Scheduled Tribes community in the state of Gujarat. Hon’ble Kuvarjibhai Halpati, State Tribal Minister, Hon’ble Dr. Kuberbhai Dindort, Cabinet Tribal Minister, Shri J.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, TDD, Shri Supreetsinh Gulati, Tribal Commissioner and CEO, D-SAG, along with other senior government officials, development agencies, and professionals participated in the event. Eight working groups collaborated on respective thematic areas. National #Workshop on #Community Seed Systems & #Agrobiodiversity #BAIF, in collaboration with the #RRA Network and #WASSAN, held a two-day National Workshop on Community-Managed Seed Systems and Agrobiodiversity in Maharashtra’s Akole and Jawhar blocks on 24-25 October. Around 40 participants from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra participated in the workshop. Mr. Sanjay Patil, Chief Thematic Programme Executive, shared BAIF’s insights on community-managed #seedsystems for #climateresilience, #nutritionalsecurity and #livelihoods. The participants engaged with seed-saving farmers, visited seed banks, on-farm experimentation centres and nutri gardens and in hands-on activities like varietal selection and diversity block establishment. The workshop was coordinated by #seedsaver communities and BAIF teams from Jawhar and Akole and forged connections with various organisations. WRI India helmed three sessions on critical conversations around sustainable food systems at the 'Food Systems Summit 2024: Marketplace for Ideas' co-organized by Food and Land Use Coalition - Food and Land Use Coalition - FOLU India and Bharat Krishak Samaj. #RabiConference 2024, Gorakhpur: Showcasing #Innovations in #Agriculture and #RuralDevelopment On October 23rd, 2024, the Agriculture Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh hosted a Rabi Conference in Gorakhpur. This conference served as an effective platform for #BAIF Livelihoods Uttar Pradesh / #BISLD-UP to showcase its innovative agricultural technologies and rural development initiatives, with distinguished officials and receiving encouraging feedback and recommendations. Mrs. Monica Garg, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, was particularly interested in learning more about BNH-11, a hybrid crop variety known for its potential to enhance agricultural productivity. Dr. P.N. Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry, expressed interest in the Sexed Sorted Semen technology promoted by BAIF, aimed at improving livestock breeding. Dr. Neeraj Gupta, CEO, UPLDB, showed interest in the Digital Sakhi Project, operations of the Cattle Development Centre (CDC) in Gorakhpur, status of Bharat Pashudhan Entry and livestock insurance and provided valuable suggestions to enhance these initiatives. Dr. Gajendra Singh, Additional Director of Animal Husbandry for Gorakhpur, and Dr. Mahendra Pandey, Chief Veterinary Officer of Gorakhpur, focussed on the Bharat Pashudhan Entry status, recognizing its importance for efficient #livestock data management while highlighting the growing role of #digital tools in animal husbandry practices. Shri Dhanesh Garg, a representative of ITC’s #CSR initiatives, appreciated the efforts being made to #empower rural women through the Digital Sakhi Project, encouraging further expansion of this impactful initiative.
