Three years ago, the founders of our now-portfolio company River introduced us to their trusted advisor Venki Padmanabhan, who quickly became one of Maniv’s most nuanced and refreshing sounding boards. Today we welcome that perspective in-house, as Venki joins us as a boots-on-the-ground Venture Advisor to enrich our investment activities at the intersection of industry and transportation.
There are not two Venkis in the ecosystem – believe us, we looked. Venki’s unique lived experiences reverberate across the verticals that move people and goods. How many have served as CEO of a major motorcycle manufacturer, COO of a leading Indian two-wheeler EV scaleup, lean practitioner across three carmakers and continents, and – until three months ago – Shift Leader at a GM facility spitting out an SUV a minute? Venki is that rare executive who can enter a board room with grease still under his nails and knows the difference between MIG and TIG. No less importantly, Venki has rare empathy, subtlety, and a healthy dose of contrarian thinking.
Venki’s addition to the Maniv team reflects our belief that the coming decades will be marked by “rubber meets road” innovation. A generational opportunity for outsized returns lies ahead as the technological gains of the digital world find widespread application in “real world” industrial environments – factories, warehouses, workshops, depots, data centers – representing the building blocks of the economy of movement. There is no one we’d rather have along for that ride than Venki.
Venki – you have no shortage of options to pursue, as you (hopelessly) fail to retire. We are eager for this next chapter of Maniv’s institutional activity with you on the team. Thank you for choosing us among your “onlies.”
And to those early-stage founders tackling the big questions of manufacturing, supply chain, and more – please reach out… there’s a good chance you’ll get Venki on the line.
