It's my pleasure to announce that after commencing construction in July 2022, the Stirling Leisure Inglewood Outdoor Pool Redevelopment is opening to the public on Monday 2 September. 🏊♂️ This project was a collaborative effort from many business units within the City and our principal contractors. The end result being contemporary pools that meets the diverse needs of our community, creating a perfect spot for families and friends to gather and enjoy. 🌳 We have built a pool with more lap swimming capacity than any in the southern hemisphere (or the world) as we have yet to find a pool that has 14 lanes normally or 24 with a dividing wall in use. 🤽♂️ In a WA first, the revamped complex uses artificial intelligence (AI) powered anti-drowning CCTV technology, Lynxight. Drowning prevention has a name, Lynxight!
The National Drowning Report 2024, released today at Parliament House, Canberra, found there were 323 drowning deaths over the past 12 months, which is a 16% increase on the 10-year average. Whilst progress has been made in some areas, drowning numbers remain persistent. This report highlights the importance of providing universal access to swimming lessons and lifesaving skills. It also illustrates the necessity of ensuring lifesaving services are present at the places and times where people are choosing to swim. The Hon Anika Wells MP said the Australian Government was committed to supporting organisations like Royal Life Saving – Australia and Surf Life Saving Australia to raise water safety awareness, ahead of summer. “With some simple precautions we can all enjoy the water safely.
