The clean energy transition is a global opportunity, and as a global R&D collaboration, EPRI brings together leaders to share insights and strategies. Recently, with EPRI Board Chair and President & CEO of PPL Corporation Vincent Sorgi, we visited both Électricité de France (EDF) in Paris and the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) in Dublin, where executives shared their respective clean energy strategies, covering low-carbon resources, #AI, clean energy grid efforts and other topics. During our meeting with EDF, we discussed the critical role of #hydropower and #nuclear energy in producing clean electricity. In the meeting with ESB, we discussed the importance of distribution and transmission systems to integrate central and distributed resources in the journey to decarbonization. The importance of load flexibility and AI was also a key topic of discussion in both meetings. These discussions are vital as we transition to a net-zero global electricity grid.   We extend our gratitude to Vince Sorgi; Luc Rémont, president and CEO of EDF; Bernard SALHA, head of EDF R&D and EPRI board member; Paddy Hayes, president and CEO of ESB Ireland and EPRI board member; Aron Patrick, head of R&D for PPL Corporation, and the executive team of ESB who accompanied Paddy Hayes for their leadership and vision in shaping the future of clean energy. Together, we are driving innovation and collaboration to achieve a sustainable energy future.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 During today’s 2024 CIGRE opening panel—"Roadmap to the Energy System of the Future”—the key message was clear: the path to decarbonization runs through distribution systems. Speaking during the panel, Vincent Sorgi, president and CEO of PPL Corporation and chair of EPRI’s Board, emphasized the urgent need to enhance the efficiency of utility distribution systems. He highlighted the pivotal role that #AI and other advanced technologies can play in this transformation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 ~𝟴: For every operation and maintenance dollar saved through efficient grid operations, the power sector can invest approximately $8 in capital to boost grid reliability, enhance customer engagement, and maintain affordable rates. It’s not a choice between affordability and sustainability; it’s about achieving both through technology and enabling regulatory policies. EPRI, with its global collaborations, works with more than 400 electric companies across 40 countries to scale technologies that make grid operations significantly more efficient. Together, we are paving the way for a sustainable and reliable energy future. #CIGRE2024
