Triona and Catherine attended a training course last week on the Energy Renovation of Historic Structures, hosted by the Office of Public Works and Technological University of the Shannon This event offered policy insights and practical guidance from across the public sector on the challenges and rewards of deep retrofitting historic and traditionally built structures for climate mitigation and adaptation. The highlight of the day was the keynote address by former President Mary Robinson, who inspired us to think about climate and nature together. She emphasised a holistic approach to retrofitting—integrating energy efficiency with the biodiversity of the grounds surrounding these structures. Lots of food for thought! We look forward to the next two sessions. #HistoricBuildings #ClimateAction #EnergyRenovation #HeritageMatters #Sustainability

Yesterday we organised a workshop in Tullamore on grasslands, attended by Local Authority Biodiversity Officers from all over the country! The workshop was expertly led by Maria Long and Brian Reidy from the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Semi-natural grasslands, in particular, are hugely important reservoirs for biodiversity, supporting a diverse range of plant and animal species. See more about grasslands in Ireland, the different types, the state they are in and steps we can take to improve them here Grasslands | National Parks & Wildlife Service: https://lnkd.in/e7DdYPKQ We also took the opportunity to visit Tullamore Wetland and river to observe some habitat improvement works recently completed by Offaly County Council. Brilliant to get out in the sunshine too! It was a super day of learning, knowledge sharing, connecting and seeing solutions being put into practice. Looking forward to more workshops planned for 2025 under our Local Authority Biodiversity Programme.
