WE DID IT!! Thank you so much to all our participants in last Friday's Abseil for the Rutland Centre! We had the most amazing day, with fantastic weather and a really well run event with adventure.ie (we would highly recommend Ronan and his team) Sincere thanks also to everyone who sponsored all the abseilers in the days and weeks leading up to the event! So far we've raised a whopping €20,000 and there's still time to donate via our website or via idonate if you would like to support us! https://lnkd.in/dQZuYdKr Here's a sample of photos from the day - more to follow! 🌟 We're proud to support the Rutland Centre with a €1200 sponsorship to help purchase state-of-the-art tablet computers! Maebh Mullany, Chief Executive of the Rutland Centre, shared her thoughts on the impact of our contribution: "We are deeply appreciative of the grant received from Capital Credit Union. Connection and re-connection with self and with loved ones is such an important aspect of treatment and recovery and so we are looking forward to using this grant for digital tablets to help us establish more effective ways for service users to connect with family during their time here. The tablets will also help us digitise some aspects of the program, thus improving the quality of the experience for service users, in turn positively impacting their long-term recovery from addiction.” We're thrilled to be a part of such a meaningful initiative that supports the Rutland Centre in its mission to improve the lives of those in recovery. 💙 #CapitalCreditUnion #RutlandCentre #CommunitySupport #RecoveryJourney #DigitalInnovation

We welcome today's report from the Health Research Board re the rise in alcohol abuse and use of cocaine in Ireland which aligns with the findings from our own 2023 Annual Report, released last week. The Health Research Board conducts invaluable work in documenting and addressing these critical issues. It is encouraging to see that The Rutland Centre’s data reflects a national trend, reaffirming the critical need for comprehensive addiction treatment and support services across Ireland. The Rutland Centre remains committed to addressing these challenges through our existing programmes and planned services to better support those in need. We also call on Minister of State Colm Burke with responsibility for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy to consider additional resourcing for treatment and recovery services beyond the planned anti-alcohol and advertising initiatives to ensure a holistic and fulsome approach to combating alcohol addiction." Maebh Mullany CEO, The Rutland Centre Astrid Brennan Emma Kavanagh

Latest HRB data on alcohol treatment demand in Ireland shows a total of 8,163 cases were treated for problem alcohol use in 2023. This is an increase of 10% on 2022 figures and the highest annual total in over a decade. Speaking about the findings, Dr Suzi Lyons, Senior Researcher at the HRB, said: “This report highlights an increase in the number of alcohol treatment cases reported compared to 2022 with cases at the highest level in over a decade. We are seeing a rise in the proportion of cases whose alcohol use was classified as hazardous or harmful along with a decrease in the proportion classified as dependent. This is positive as it means that people are accessing treatment services before they become dependent. The earlier people present for treatment the more successful outcomes are likely to be.” Read all the key findings and download the report and infographics here https://bit.ly/3WxNc7B

    CEO at the Rutland Centre

I'm really looking forward to joining my colleague Emma Kavanagh speaking at this event in September! Addiction is no respecter of where you're from or what you work at so we'll be introducing delegates who work in these challenging emergency roles to the Rutland Centre and demonstrating that recovery from addiction is not only possible, but life changing!
