📣 Registration for the online conference of the European RPL Network is now open! Find all information about the programme, speakers and registration under the following link: https://lnkd.in/edjrBN6h The European Network for Recognition of Prior Learning (European RPL Network) is the association of national networks and institutions in higher education in Europe working on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The networks’ mission is to promote the RPL concept in Europe and connect and support national RPL networks in their mission to raise awareness for the use of RPL. It also aims to support the establishment of efficient, transparent and quality-assured RPL procedures in higher education. On November 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th 2024 the European RPL Network holds its first online conference consisting of four separate thematic sessions. The conference of the European RPL Network aims to inform about the principles of RPL in the context of higher education, discuss policy and institutional perspectives and raise awareness for the importance of collaboration for RPL. Participants may register for one or more sessions. The conference is free of charge and will be of interest to policy makers, higher education practitioners, leadership and management as well as any other higher education professionals who would like to learn more about RPL in higher education. 💡 Exploring the emergence of micro-credentials in VET  📑 One of the latest Cedefop reports, "Exploring the emergence of microcredentials in Vocational Education and Training", explores how micro-credentials can address skills gaps and boost lifelong learning, a core focus of the #MIC4VET project. With growing demands for upskilling and reskilling, micro-credentials offer flexible, targeted solutions to ensure workers have the right skills for the evolving labour market. 💡  Key highlights: ➡️ Micro-credentials focus on specific skills and competences, offering a faster alternative to traditional qualifications while complementing them.    ➡️ They are increasingly being integrated into education and training systems, providing lifelong learning opportunities for upskilling and reskilling.    ➡️ The paper identifies scenarios where micro-credentials play a crucial role, including improving employability, filling gaps in specific sectors, and supporting vulnerable groups like unemployed or low-skilled workers.    ➡️ Challenges such as standardization, quality assurance, and recognition remain, but efforts are being made to integrate micro-credentials into national qualification frameworks across Europe. This promises to be a useful piece of the answer to the question posed by conference track 3 at ePIC 2024 #openepic: "How can we articulate informal, non-formal and formal recognition?" The panel, facilitated by Joanne Duklas and Melanie Gottlieb, CAE of the Groningen Declaration Network (GDN), will share results from an interoperability study conducted by the GDN Technology Working Group, due to be formally published in Fall 2024, before the ePIC conference. The research and its findings stem from a series of efforts now underway by the GDN Network of Networks Digital Ecosystem. The session will explore how interoperability or lack thereof across its many dimensions can enable or restrict recognition and trust of credentials. Technology, standards, policy instruments, governance and business models, and digitization examples are just some of the theme areas from across the globe that will be brought to the discussion. It will bring forward identified interoperability models from the research as well as identify emerging concepts and efforts underway internationally to support recognition of non-formal, formal and cross-cutting learning. Core discussion questions will include the following: - How can we make recognition accessible to all learners through advancing interoperability across its dimensions? - What are some successful examples of scaling of digital credentials and why were they successful? - How might further interoperability across its dimensions further recognition across all learning modalities? After setting the stage by sharing current research and use cases, the session leaders will facilitate an open discussion with the audience to share their contexts, experiences and questions. The session is designed to identify areas of risk and opportunity for advancing recognition and trust through enabling interoperability. Wearing my CAPLA Board Director hat, here's a plea for professional resources for #RPL practitioners, whether they call it that or not. See below where to connect with any resources you may have. Thanks in advance! The Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA) is launching a multi-sectoral Environmental Scan to assess the learning needs of professionals involved in Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (#PLAR) and Recognition of Prior Learning (#RPL). (More prior learning acronyms for those who collect them: #PLA, #CPL, #VPL, #RVA, #RAC, #VAE #APEL ) This includes individuals in various roles such as advisor, counsellor, assessor, or program administrator. They may not have PLAR/RPL explicitly in their job titles and may not consider themselves RPL practitioners, but are engaged in work related to assessing and recognizing existing skills and competencies. This project received support from The Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT).
