I hope you all enjoyed your Summer and there are some key initiatives I want to highlight to members as we head into a very busy Autumn and Winter in the Irish Planning Institute. With the expected passage of the Planning and Development Bill in the coming weeks we’re preparing to support our members as it commences and we’re also finalising our observations to the Department on the new and revised regulations which will be required to implement it. We have recently made our submission on the draft revision of the National Planning Framework. We will be meeting our colleagues in the Department shortly and these changes, our recent submission on ePlanning, resourcing – including the Critical Skills List - and how we can work together for the long term sustainability of the planning system and profession will be on the agenda. We also look forward to meeting Minster for Infrastructure John O’Dowd MLA next month. There are some key events and CPD coming up, including our Autumn Planning Conference on 3rd October which is on the critical issue of planning and infrastructure. We will also be looking at topical issues like data centres, quarries, active travel, law and acoustic assessment, alongside locally organised branch activities before the end of the year and you can find out more at www.ipi.ie. I also want to encourage you to join us in shaping the future of the Institute ahead of our 50th anniversary next year. Firstly, we are modernising our constitution and governance arrangements and we welcome your comments on the draft new constitution ahead of adopting the final new constitution at our AGM in December. More information on how to get involved in this is available on our website. Secondly, we are inviting expressions of interest in our committees, branches and networks by 20th September. I urge you to get involved in one of these as I am keen to ensure that voices and perspectives from across the profession continue to be represented in everything we do. Finally, linked to that desire, next month we will be launching a membership sentiment survey to better understand how the Institute can support you in your career. Keep an eye out for further details of this next month. As always if you wish to bring anything to my attention I welcome your emails to [email protected] and look forward to meeting you at our Autumn Conference and other in person or online events before the end of the year. Gavin Lawlor MIPI President, Irish Planning Institute
Later this month we're organising an active travel cycle tour in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. Early career planners’ network events are organised by the network to be particularly relevant to student and graduate members but are open to all members of the Irish Planning Institute.
