⚡Data Centres form part of the solution to our energy challenge in this remarkable project by Digital Realty and Enel X using EpiSensor IoT infrastructure. (Full article featured in Digitalisation World). As Ireland pushes towards its goal of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, data centres are emerging as a critical component in our energy transition. A recent collaboration between Enel X and Digital Realty shows how data centres can play an active role in stabilising the grid and supporting renewable energy integration. The Grid-Interactive UPS project, which leverages battery energy storage in data centres, helps balance grid frequency fluctuations in real-time. This helps prevent outages, reduces reliance on fossil-fuel power plants, and enhances renewable energy integration. This innovative approach turns typically idle assets (data centre batteries used to maintain an uninterrupted power supply) into valuable contributors to grid stability. As stated in the article: "A triple win - for data centres, the grid, and the environment"! 🌿 We are proud to say EpiSensor technology is leveraged in these programmes, where we partnered with Enel X to enable real-time monitoring of grid frequency and dynamic control of battery output.
