This morning Dóchas launched its Election Manifesto and Electoral Snapshots research project. The Dóchas Electoral Snapshots demonstrates the tangible support for development and humanitarian organisations by the Irish public, and community support for aid and development more broadly. The scope of the snapshots includes aggregated data on the amount of donations received by 27 Dóchas member organisations and illustrates the level of public support, interest and trust in aid and development organisations across every county in Ireland. The launch event heard from Yvonne Murphy of Lacuna Consulting, who wrote the Electoral Snapshots report, and political consultant Gerard Howlin on the lay of the land ahead of the General Election. The #AidWatch2024 report has been released by CONCORD this morning. The AidWatch report shows that there is a real issue across Europe with domestic refugee costs being counted as overseas development assistance, and Ireland has to be very careful to avoid that. See our full reaction to the report here: https://lnkd.in/eZuykh5r
🚨Hot off the press! 🚨 #AidWatch 2024 is here! This year's report explores the roles of self-interest in the EU's #ODA provision, and unveils the bigger picture behind unmet EU commitments on ODA… 🤔 So what's the story? The report reveals that the EU is increasingly at risk of allowing #ODA provision to be shaped by self-interest at the expense of the priorities and wellbeing of partner countries. This is a trend that goes against the criteria for provision of ODA as set out by the OECD - OCDE Development Assistance Committee. What's more, the decades-long failure of the EU and Member States to fulfil the commitment of allocating at least 0.7% of GNI to ODA amounts to a startling 1.2 trillion euros of unpaid ODA.
