Staff from Concern Worldwide will be attending COP29 next week - a COP where climate finance is taking centre stage. Tommy Chimpanzi from Concern Malawi explains why low-income countries should not be left to fund solutions to climate change, when higher-income countries are most responsible for its impacts.
At COP29 Azerbaijan, countries are set to agree a new global climate finance goal, the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG). For the NCQG to be a success, it should adopt a fair share approach and comply with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, as set out under the UNFCCC and in the Paris Agreement. “Low-income countries like Malawi should not be left to fund solutions to a problem they did not cause" says Tommy Chimpanzi from Concern Worldwide in Malawi.
